Vintage Native American Handmade Deer Fur/Hair,Drum/Rattle Original OLD TOY
This drum is in very good condition. No holes or missing fur. It is handmade and has a fur and rawhide rope attached to it but the thin rope has come apart at one end(see last photo) but it is still there, it could be reattached on the one end. The drum is approx. 5 inches tall and 5 inches around. It is filled with stones or something that makes noise when you shake it. The fur is real deer hide. It maybe a rattle since when you shake it you can hear things inside of it. There is a tiny blue ribbon that someone has tied on it that I am sure you can see in the photos. The doll itself measures about 17" It is made of hand painted porcelain head that is marked on the back with" Bill Ceramics 1986" The body is made of cloth with stuffing. Cradleboards are traditional protective baby-carriers used by many indigenous cultures in North America but I am not certain if the featured one is depicting a Native American style one. The carrier is made of wooden board and two natural wooden poles but not sure of the exact type of wood. The baby is wrapped ... morein natural rabbit fur. The same is used to line the head rest area. The pouch, the straps and fringes are made of genuine deer leather. The decoration also includes glass beads, feather, net, bells. The back of the board is hand signed with" David Saice( 555, 8/6/95, ForeBears Trading Company" and bears a sticker that reads" ForeBears Trading Company hand painted porcelain head, buffalo fur hair, deer leather, rabbit fur, and glass beads. Unfortunately, I was not able to find any information neither on the company nor on the artist. The item comes in well-preserved condition with no major issues. No cracks on the porcelain head. The fur and the leather is in good condition as well. There might be some normal for the age vintage wear but I don't see anything significant to worry about. The rare and truly hand made with natural leather and furs Southwestern baby doll will make a precious addition to any collection and will make a remarkable American Indian display.
