Mechanical and overall physical condition, with some typical scratches and scuffs in the original paint as you see in the photos. Operation is by footswitch(included-about 10' of cable) The table is in good shape-a little dusty is all. No gouges, cracks, or anything disturbing. The rear-operated back gage is fully functional and moves freely and locks up nicely. The blade is sharp with no nicks. One front support/extension arm has been replaced with shop built. The other is original. The shear has a front material return installed underneath so you don't have to go back and forth to pick up your sheared product. This machine uses a mechanical linkage system which is very simple. So. Maintenance is drastically reduced from other more complex systems such as hydraulic or flywheel types. The bearings associated with the mechanical linkage are self lubricated and require no maintenance. The motor gearbox is grease packed and also requires no maintenance. The shear part is a Roper Whitney#4 2x2 Angle shear that is actuated by a pneumatic piston. The shear is designed to cut 2x2 x 1/4" steel angle iron so it is understressed in this application. The controller is a Mead CSV-107LS Safety controller that requires both hands to actuate. Plexiglass safety shield over shear. There is a 24" scale to measure the material being cut. I tested it on the 18 ga. strap shown. Punched it easy. Can also do slotting with the punch. Shear blade is very sharp, no nicks or dulling. There is an extra punch& die that was with this. 422" diameter. The punch takes the Roper Whitney#8 punch/die, also Whitney Metal#2 punch/die is same thing. Punch weighs about 25 lbs. Power Gap Shear Pexto Roper Whitney Single Phase 42"
For sale is a beautiful old Roper Whitney(Pexto) No 142(C142) Power Gap Shear. The machine is a single phase power and motor is badged for 110 or 220V power; is currently wired for 110V for our uses. Machine is 16 GA rated from what I can find. I don't have any books on the machine but it appears that Roper Whitney is still in business. The machine needs a tune up as it sits. The machine sat in the back of the building for a while and was only occasionally used. It was pulled out and cleaned up some but I feel that the machine just doesn't fit my needs at this point with what I am doing these days. Its a really cool old vintage unit and I know it has years of service left on it. Machines like this aren't really made anymore. And if you can find something new that is this heavy and reliable then you are going to pay a fortune for ... moreit. The machine is not in perfect working condition. The primary issue is that the blades are not adjusted properly. I removed the blade to inspect the cutting edges and they are in great shape; when doing so the shims behind the blade dropped out and I didn't notice to put them back. I installed the blade and it is too far setback. I can include the shims or if you want, have the blades re-sharpened before re-installation. I was quoted $250 for a good sharpening of both inner and outer edges with face planing so that the blades can be reversed and be reinstalled again before needing any service. The other item is that the back gauge is sticky and needs to be re-squared. The adjustment splice collar loosened and someone bored was cranking the handles and adjusted the back gauge out of square. Its a simple fix but since the machine was sitting for a bit the guide shafts could stand to be cleaned and re-oiled. A few of the oil-cups were stolen off the machine for other machines. The machine will still cut however. Even with the poor blade adjustment. I have a video of the machine cutting some 18 gauge and shows the machine running. Copy and paste the following number code in
