Early 20th Century GE Watthour Electric Power Meter 1913-1927
This Auction is for a very old General Electric Single-Phase Watthour Meter No. 9539-211 Type. I-14 Cyc. 60 Amp. 15 Volts 220 3 Wire. The item appears to be in original condition having been well cared for over the past 8 0 or so years since it has seen service. This is a vintage early 20th century type I-14 induction residential watt-hour meter dating between 1913- 1927. Clear glass pane protects the four dials. Removal of the two wing nuts allows access to the electrical components. In 1915. GE purchased the fort Wayne electric works which it had wholly owned since 1898 and operated it as an extension of their meter plant in West Lynn, Ma until meter manufacturing was discontinued at Fort Wayne in May 1929. The I-14 was an upgrade from the earlier models(I. I-8 and I-10) since it has much easier access to the terminals. In the case of this ... moremeter, the tamper/inspection tags are still threaded through the brass wing-nuts and bolts. Still attached on the front side of the meter are the"Notice- Laws of 1909. Section 405. In addition, T here is a"Meter Test Card" dated 4-18-1924. The unit is Numbered 48731 on the front cover. Two of the wire leads have been cut at the housing and the two remaining have had insulation stripped near the terminals(see pic) Aside from the cosmetic wear which comes from normal use and age. It looks to could very well be in working order, although it is untested by me. The unit weighs 8 1/2 lbs and is 5 1/2" wide. 7" long and 4 1/4" deep. It is in very good Original Condition without being restored. It is a vary rare meter being it is the larger 220 Volt model. Type D-7, 3 Wire 2 and 3 Phase. What makes it even more timeless and unique is the fact it still retains the original P.G. E. metal locks on wing nuts located next to the top name plate(see picture) It has not even been opened for over 50 years since the last day it was in use. This is a older version of this meter. You can tell by the four clock like dials under the top cover. Both glass covers are clean and is excellent condition. The numbers in the top glass matches the white numbers on the case. The case a small dent to top cover above the left wing nut but that is about ... moreit. This item has not been tested with unknown working condition. up for auction is this Vintage. Early 20th century GE model, single-phase watthour meter. Type I-14, 60 cycle, 2 wire, 10 amps, 110 volts, 114 781 78(I presume to be the serial number) I am NOT an electrician. So I have no idea what any of this means. Nor do I know if it works, which is why I listed as non-working-for parts. Research indicates this type meter was 1st made around 1915. Don't know if that is when this was made, all I know is it looks old. Research also indicates this meter consists of a hollow cast iron casting, finished in original enamel black finish. The reinforced glass case is held down with 2 original cast brass wing nuts. The cover swings out when access is needed to the terminals. Other than old looking. Meter appears to be in decent shape. The glass cover is in beautiful shape. Clean with no cracks or breaks. It ... morehas 4 hole openings on the bottom, 2 for line, 2 for load. Today I have a Vintage 1940's(I think) General Electric Co. Wattmeter. It has some damage(look at the picture of the front near the GE circle logo) and I don't know if it works. It came from a retired Employee, it has been hanging in his garage for years, it was the Property of Schenectady Instrumentation Service. Numbered on brass plate S 019018. The leather handle is in good shape, nice brass plaques,It's cover is missing, It's about 8.25' x 8.25'x 4' and weights about 11 pounds.
