And built with expert craftmanship. The outer box has been beat to heck, but is still completely solid. The original hardware with ingenious locking mechanisms are still present. Early 20th Century GE Watthour Electric Power Meter 1913-1927
This Auction is for a very old General Electric Single-Phase Watthour Meter No. 9539-211 Type. I-14 Cyc. 60 Amp. 15 Volts 220 3 Wire. The item appears to be in original condition having been well cared for over the past 8 0 or so years since it has seen service. This is a vintage early 20th century type I-14 induction residential watt-hour meter dating between 1913- 1927. Clear glass pane protects the four dials. Removal of the two wing nuts allows access to the electrical components. In 1915. GE purchased the fort Wayne electric works which it had wholly owned since 1898 and operated it as an extension of their meter plant in West Lynn, Ma until meter manufacturing was discontinued at Fort Wayne in May 1929. The I-14 was an upgrade from the earlier models(I. I-8 and I-10) since it has much easier access to the terminals. In the case of this ... moremeter, the tamper/inspection tags are still threaded through the brass wing-nuts and bolts. Still attached on the front side of the meter are the"Notice- Laws of 1909. Section 405. In addition, T here is a"Meter Test Card" dated 4-18-1924. The unit is Numbered 48731 on the front cover. Two of the wire leads have been cut at the housing and the two remaining have had insulation stripped near the terminals(see pic) Aside from the cosmetic wear which comes from normal use and age. It looks to could very well be in working order, although it is untested by me. The unit weighs 8 1/2 lbs and is 5 1/2" wide. 7" long and 4 1/4" deep. MYSTERY METER - Antique Electric Test Meter for Automobiles - for Ford Cars?
This listing is for an antique electric meter that was apparently used for automotive testing sometime in the past. I bought this in a box of other meters at an auction and do not know how it was used. The meter is mounted in a box that is 5" wide. 4" tall, and 1.5" deep. The box has two wires coming out of the top, but neither is marked or color coded. There is no brand name or other identifying markings on this meter. It appears to have a d'Arsonval moving coil movement, and the needle zeros properly and moves freely, so I think it is probably in working condition. The markings on the scale are puzzling to me. Most of these are visible in the second photo. The main scale goes from zero to 220. There is a small scale above it that shows the numbers 7. 9, 11 13, 15, and 17. At the bottom of the scale are the notations BAD, ... moreEMPTY, and FULL. At the top of the scale, not visible in the photo, is the word FORD at 120 on the main scale, the word FORD again at 155, and the word Lincoln at 190 on the main scale. This suggests that the meter was used for working on Ford Motor Company Cars. I refer to this as my"mystery meter. but perhaps you know how it was used. If so, please share that information with me so that I can share it with other buyers. Old Estate Find. This vintage portable watthour meter is 6 ½ tall x 5 ½ wide x 5 ¼ deep. It has an outlet on the side to plug in a device and a knife switch on the front. The dial on the front has a face that reads zero to twenty kilowatt hours with SANGAMO logo with arrow indicator and power wheel. Dial glass has been replaced with a thin sheet of plastic some time in the past. It has some tears in it. Top handle is missing. Painted white some time in the distant past also. I did not attempt to plug in and test. Cord is old and frayed. Knife switch does move up and down. Interior looks clean. Power wheel does turn by hand.
