This megohmmeter is a fully functional meter that is used to test high resistances such as insulation resistance etc. The battery operated instrument measures to 100 meg ohms on the megohm range and 3 megohms on the kilohm range. Was tested with a 1 megohm resistor and the needle was right on scale in both ranges. Uses 4 AA batteries(included) which are installed. The meter dial illuminates during test to accommodate use in poorly lit areas. Test voltage is 500V in the megohm range and 20V in the kilohm range. Test probes are permanently attached and the unit is calibrated by plugging the probe into the calibration socket.

Megger 212159 (MJ159) Hand-Cranked Insulation Tester
I read on the internet how the thing works and I tested it according to my understanding of the information I read. When I connected the black lead to a motor electrical lead and the red lead to the case(ground) Cranked the handle and pressed the test button the needle stayed over on the left side of the meter no shorts. When I created a dead short with the leads, cranked the handle and pressed the test button, the needle went all the way over to the right side of the meter indicating a short. This is the complete extent of my knowledge of the operation of this unit. 14 day return policy. If the unit does not function, I will reimburse shipping both ways. Please feel free to ask questions.

This is a Positron 378265/2 60 hz insulation tester. Comes with the PSION organiser that is set up to download the test data from the head and then transfer it to a computer. Software is available for download from Positron. It comes with what is shown in the pictures. It appears to never have been used. There are no marks on the brass connection to the hot stick. The PSION runs on a 9 volt battery, the test head has a built in rechargable battery, that took a charge and holds it. The one that is for sale is the UNIVERSAL one shown below.

This is an estate purchase so I'm not an expert at what it actually does(other than test insulation) or whether it is still functional but it appears to be in great condition and is a piece of vintage art in and of itself. Original instruction manual with awesome photos and schematics is also in near mint shape as is the box/case and strap.
