STYLE 1960 CRITERION LEVEL-WINDING CASTING REEL. This reel ... moreis in very good condition. It measures 2-3/16" diameter, 3-5/8" deep including the handle, and has a foot measuring 2-1/2" long by 9/16" wide. On the bottom of the foot it has"MODEL 26, 100 YDS. PATENTED, MADE IN U.S.A. It has a 4:1 geared multiplier. The handle has a plastic Ivorine knobs. It has a clicker controlled by a slide button on the rear plate rim, and drag control by rotating knurled bearing caps on the front& rear plates. The crank side is engraved with"CRITERION LEVEL-WINDING NO. 1960" and still on the front cover inside an oval"MADE IN KALAMAZOO, U.S.A. Shakespeare. Honor built. Honor sold" with fish logo. The nickel plated brass is in very good overall condition with some surface scratches(see photos) The reel is in poor working condition it that the level-wind mechanism hangs up and needs some wiggling to free it up. It travels freely for the most part, but hangs up at the ends when changing directions. It appears to have all its parts. It displays very well, but could not be used for fishing as is, unless the level-wind mechanism is corrected. It weighs 8.3 ounces, with packaging it will ship at 13 ounces. The line guide, worm gear, and pawl all tracks back fourth properly. Clicker button engages and disengages properly. The knobs on the handle are free to turn. The reel is complete no missing or broken parts. A Pflueger Cub No. 2542 handle has been added to this reel. Reel does have some minor scratches. Reel is very clean. From the home of a long time freshwater fisherman. This casting reel was made by the Shakespeare Company- well known name at the time, in the fine fishing tackle business. This model began production in 1932. Patented and made in the USA, the impressed Shakespeare name, Criterion, 1960, and the model number HJ can be clearly seen on the head(see photos) The piece is in clean. Shiny, used condition and being sold AS IS since it has not been tested. The handles turn smoothly and the bale slides from side to side, so we suspect the condition is good.
