Up for bid is one vintage Bronson' X-pert' casting reel with clicker. Drag control, jeweled bearing caps, and 4:1 multiplier. This reel is in good condition. It is equipped with a clicker controlled by a slide button on the rear plate, drag control through rotating the rear knurled bearing cap, and 4:1 geared multiplier all in good working condition. It is equipped with jeweled bearing caps in good condition. The metal is nickel plated brass as there are some small scratches with brass showing. The plating is in very good condition otherwise. On the front plate it is inscribed with" X-pert" Which was a trade reel name Bronson used for reels made for Sears. The Bronson name does not appear. On the bottom of the foot it is inscribed with"PAT.APP. FOR, MADE IN U.S.A. The handle has a plastic knobs in good condition. The ... morebrass handle screw looks like a replacement as there are marks of a larger head screw was present at one time. The is a Bakelite ring behind the front plate that has a crack or break inline with one of the screws(see photos) It measures 2-3/16" diameter. 3-15/16" deep including the handle, pillars are 1-23/32" long, and has a foot measuring 2-1/2" long by 9/16" wide. Vintage Aqua Sportsman Casting Reel w/ No Backlash Line Control Arm 1940s OHIO
This is a rare Aqua Sportsman Casting reel with a No Backlash Line Control Arm. These reels were made in Cincinnati. Ohio, by Aqua Sportsman Inc. This is how it works. The line passes from the spool through the level wind guide and the eyelet of the control arm. As the line runs out, the tension pulls the control arm down releasing the braking mechanism. When the lure begins to slow on the cast, the line tension decreases and automatically the braking mechanism starts functioning. The brake engages just enough to slow the reel to the speed of the line. All line tension is released as the lure strikes the water and the spool stops instantly. No"thumbing" needed.no backlash.
