For auction is this lovely bookbinders plate in the style of a Grolier Arabesque. This bronze plate is nearly identical to one that I sold a few months ago except that it is slightly smaller in size. It measures 4.5" x 3.75" and is 1/4" inch thick. Ive included a picture of the impression on green harmatan goat skin to show the detail! Its a beautiful tool and in near fine condition. The back of this die has some damage which I've tried to show in the photos. But it doesn't affect the design or its functionality. This bronze plate is nearly identical to one that I sold a few years ago except that it is slightly smaller in size. It measures 6" x 4" and is 1/4" inch thick. You are considering an antique. Brass embossing wheel used to gild book bindings. Gold leaf was attached to the top of a padded print box, and the embossing wheel was rolled across the top of the box to pick up the gold leaf. Then the wheel was used to emboss a book binding. As you can imagine with a tool this old and for this use, it has dings, scratches, discoloration, stains and age appropriate wear. Please refer to the pictures to judge its condition.
