With both functioning& t he spindle turns freely throughout the 1" range. There are no previous owner markings or engravings on it. Micrometer is stamped: MITUTOYO 0-1" 0001" MADE IN JAPAN Stamped delineations on the main body are visible in the photos. The micrometer dial delineations can also be seen in the photos. The dial of this piece functions smoothly along with the locking tab. The piece measures 4-3/8th inches in length. Condition is very good to excellent used with NO rust. Scratches or marks. Small wrench is not marked and measures 2-3/8th inches in length. Scherr Tumico 0-12" Depth Micrometer Set .001" Complete in Case w/ Ratchet Stop
Older model Scherr Tumico 0-12" depth micrometer set in wood case. The mic turns freely& the ratchet stop works. It is clean. As are all of the depth rods, but it is older and shows it's age. When I checked it on a surface plate. The 0-1" rod is reading-0005" so it will need calibration. I think it's safe to assume that all of the rods may need adjustment. Some of the rods are in better shape than others(light pitting. Etc on the faces) but all look like they should be OK. The wood case is beat up& the lid is warping, so you have to push down on it to get the latches engaged. The only thing this set is missing is the adjustment wrenches. The case is old and has wear and tear from previous owners. Tubular inside micrometers are designed for large internal measurements beyond the capacity of most other micrometers. Each set consists of a micrometer head mounted at the end of a tubular holder in which measuring rods can be inserted and adjusted to the desired size. Final size reading in thousandths of an inch(0.001" is obtained using the micrometer head. Rods and holder are made of steel tubing. Light in weight, yet very rigid. In 1880 the L.S. Starrett Co. was started by Laroy Starrett. A farmer from China, Maine. He moved to Newburyport, Massachusetts, worked at a farm and later, the Athol Machine Co. He later bought the company. He was enormously talented and immediately started applying for patents. During the 1880's. Starrett made his name by the manufacturing of top of the line calipers and micrometers, etc. His tools were considered works of art. They are the most popular micrometers used by skilled craftsmen worldwide. This item is an old Starrett Micrometer Caliper. It was made with hardened tool steel. It enabled the user to measure by the thousandth of an inch from 2" to 3" This one has the cut out frame. I'm not sure of the age of these. But a like micrometer originally sold for $11.00 in 1938 and now, new, sell for $179-$250. Again, ... morethis is the jewel of precision micrometers used by craftsmen all over the world. The micrometer is in very good condition and is about 7" long and complete with the previous owner's name written. It is used. So there is some patina.
