You are bidding on a Brown and Sharpe Mfg. steel micrometer. Size 2-3” It measures in 0.001” graduations. It is in very good condition. No rust and a little paint worn off. And the functionality is fine. The knob spins as it should, but the thimble knob is missing. My husband has obtained several micrometer sets over time and we are listing the ones he doesn’t need. RI) My father-in-law was a jeweler and these were part of his toolbox. They were used for measuring width. He always said he could measure the width of a strand of hair, which impressed me to no end. They’re also used in lapidary. Dental labs and miniature model making. One side of the Micrometer has the numbers in 4ths and 32nds while the other side’s numbers are in 64ths. The numbers are easy to read on both sides. My father-in-law very lightly inscribed his name on the‘64th’ side. The movable handle also says Brown& Sharpe. Along with the patent number. There is a number“13” beneath the lettering on the‘4th’ side. My wife who is also a jeweler insists that there’s nothing ... morelike an old tool.
