The LS Starrett Co.Athol Mass USA No.440 depth micrometer with 7 rods and case. This item is from my brother-in-laws estate who was a machinist that worked on the space shuttle program for NASA. As with most of his tools there is a name lightly inscribed on the surface of the tool and his name written on the top of the case with a black permanent marker. The inscription on the tool could be buffed out but other than that it seems to be in good working order. Here is a beautiful vintage used STARRETT 440 Depth Micrometer set. This beautiful vintage set is complete as shown in the photos. Look at the photos. The tool is pristine for its age and works excellent. Everything is in excellent condition and there is no rust whatsoever anywhere on the indicator, inside or outside and on the 3 rods. With the 3 rods(1 in tool now and 2 extras) it will measure 0 to 3" The ring-type locknut works as it should and this one has the speeder style thimble on the end. Even the wrench is there. Those always get lost it seems) The vintage case is good condition and stays open and closed with the latch. For collectors out there.the outside of the vintage wooden box could actually be cleaned with some very fine steel wool and it would look as shiny as the inside cover. This was always kept in a temperature controlled ... moreshop and used by only 1 machinist its entire life. There are no engravings on it either! And this one has No identifying paperwork with the kit, so we've had to go by being told what it is and the numbers on the tool. This kit looks to be missing one rod. Tools are in the Original wooden box. Which shows wear, mainly scratches, dirt& wear expected from age and use. The box is Not trashed-the hinges are Tight& front metal hook closure is Good. 3" STARRETT ATHOL. MASS. U.S.A. label on the top of the box. The inside of the box is good with a fair amount of dirt& oil stains to the wood& the slots holding the tool parts. The inside smells of"lube oil" There are 7 slots with 6 filled.
