The Controller has a high-efficiency. Auto-ranging power supply which adjusts itself to any external electrical supply in the specified voltage range. The power supply converts the single-phase electrical supply into a regulated d.c. electrical supply to control the operation of the EXT pump. The pump has three Hall effect devices which operate as rotor position sensors. These sensors ensure that the drive current is correctly switched to the phase-windings of the pump-motor. The Hall effect devices also generate a speed signal which the Controller uses to regulate the rotational speed of the pump. The Controller has a secondary regenerative supply which uses the d.c. motor of the EXT pump as a generator. If the electrical supply fails. The regenerative supply provides the Controller with a back-up source of power without the need for batteries. The Controller uses the regenerative supply to maintain the electrical supplies to the vent-valve, air-cooler and AIM gauge(if connected) until the pump speed falls to below 50% of full rotational speed. The Controller has no front-panel controls and can only be operated through the logic interface. To operate the EXT pump. You must therefore connect the Controller to your own control equipment. Ok. Here's the deal. This can be the bargain of the lifetime for someone that can do the required work on this turbo! Firstoff, I want to say that the turbo is NOT suitable for industrial use. The turbo came out of a system that was out in the weather for years. Rain got down into the turbo and it is very corroded inside. When I first got it the rotor would not even turn! The lower end was disassembled and it was not as bad inside as it seemed. It cleaned up nicely and when it was put back together it was turning completely freely! The bearing was not touched by the rain so it is in good condition. The stack was not disassembled to clean the corrosion off the blades. That is a job beyond my experience on that model turbo. The turbo has some unbalance from the corrosion so it is a bit rough starting up and stopping but once it gets past the unbalance point it smooths out and runs perfectly quietly! This corrosion and unbalance is why I say the turbo is not suited for industrial use. But for the hobby user it is fine and will produce a vacuum down in the low 10-6 torr range in spite of the corrosion. Now for the controller. This is the controller board only. No power supply. No connecting cable. That is because I don't have them! So, you will have to make the power supply and wire up a connecting cable for the turbo connector. This connector costs $35 from Mouser electronics. Sometimes they are available on ebay for less but it is hit and miss. You will need a small transformer to produce the 15 volt supplies and a 100 watt transformer to produce the 35 volts at 2 amps for the turbo motor.
