Lucent RFTG GPS Disciplined Frequency Standard (GPSDO) - HAM
Lucent RFTG GPS Disciplined Frequency Standard(GPSDO) HAM This is the frequency disciplining section of a Lucent RFTG frequency standard. It's the second(and last) of these units that I have available. The RFTG consists of both an ovenized crystal oscillator(OXCO) which is disciplined by a GPS receiver and associated circuitry. And a separate rubidium oscillator, which is also disciplined by control from the OXCO. The system is redundant, and both the OXCO and the rubidium oscillator sections are capable of being operated independently. From the exterior they both look alike, but only the OXCO has independent GPS capability. I prefer the OXCO as a standard over the rubidium unit for two reasons: 1) The stand-alone rubidium unit must be periodically calibrated. The OXCO is self-calibrating by locking to the cesium beam standards of the ... moreGPS system. 2) The rubidium unit will eventually"wear out" due to gradual failure of the excitation lamp. The OXCO will last indefinitely. Even if left on continuously- which is the preferred mode of operation. This standard has been fitted with its own indicator and power supply. And is extremely simple to use. There are no switches or controls, just a red/green LED to show GPS lock status and a 10 MHz output port on the front. An antenna connection and a power input are on the rear. There is no on/off switch, as the unit is intended to operate continuously for maximum accuracy. The GPS receiver is shown at the top in the fourth photo, attached to the removable bottom of the standard. This receiver and antenna connection are not present in the rubidium version. The output impedance is a standard 50 ohms. With just over 4 volts of clean sine wave output into an open circuit as shown in the second photo. The output is a bit less when terminated in its 50 ohm characteristic impedance. A new power supply and"starter" antenna are included. However, the receiver should have a standard mast-mounted antenna for best operation. They are available at modest cost here

The instrument contains the optional 86-690 Output Configuration“L” Board which allows the user to select the analog or digital signals that will appear at five rear panel BNCs labeled J1 through J5. Signal selection is made by the installation of jumpers. Outputs include 10 MHz and 1 PPS signals. Analog output formats are: IRIG B AM IRIG B amplitude modulated. This receiver and antenna connection are not present in the rubidium version. Output is approximately 4 volts P-P of clean sine wave output into an open circuit as shown in the second photo. And half that value when terminated into a 50 ohm impedance. A new power supply and"starter" antenna are included. However, the receiver should have a standard mast-mounted antenna for best operation. They are available at modest cost here on eBay. About $30 will get you a new(5 volt) one if you shop. I'

This is an HP 58514A band pass filter(L1 1.5742 GHz) for a GPSDO. It will filter unwanted RF frequencies from interfering with the satellite GPS signal to your GPSDO. The factory seal is still intact. Not the prettiest looking piece but typical HP quality construction and performance.

Brandywine GPS-4 Time & Frequency Standard GPSDO High Stability Oscillator 10MHz
This is a Brandywine GPS-4 which has the Brandywine High-Stability Oscillator option and 18-36 VDC input option. Includes an Acopian VA24MT210 24V linear PSU. You can look up the details on the Acopian website. It seems to have pretty good specs(and lists for $225 itself) Don't even ask how it compares to a T-Bolt or other GPSDO because I wouldn't be able to answer that. Includes a short serial cable adapter I made(it's kind of rinky-dink but it does the job) since hooking up a regular serial cable directly to the unit triggers a fault(or holds down in reset. It’s been a while so I’m not 100% sure) Brandywine in their infinite wisdom decided to shove a whole bunch of non-standard related functions on the DB-9 connector, so to prevent issues that's why I made the adapter with just the tx/rx/gnd wires. The extra SYNTH port is ... morefactory-set to 19.6608 MHz. I believe the PPS port is also configurable, check the manual for details. 10MHz is obviously a sine-wave. IRIG-B is AM(but I think it too can be configured) Uses a regular 5V GPS antenna with a BNC connector( not included) You can find the You can also Google and find the full PDF manual. But I will also include it on a CD. I’m not going to bore you with a ton of details about this piece of hardware.
