Large& collectible tray, manufactured by Couroc of California, company founded in 1948 in Monterey, known for their high end designs. Their laborious techniques, their use of quality materials such as stone, shell, coral, bronze, and coins, formula for the black phenolic resin that was used has never been disclosed but. According to the label, it will withstand mostly everything except a nuclear blast, features 4 large detailed clocks, label on the back telling us the 4 clock types as well as the manufacturer no embossed manufacturer name on the tray(as is common with these older pieces) Size: 15 1/2" x 10 3/4" x 3/4" Condition: This is in good vintage condition. The inlay is smooth and tight with no missing pieces. ITEM DESCRIPTION: This tray measures 18" x 12 1/2" Features Grandfather Clock. Flying Pendulum Clock, Wag on the Wall, and Banjo Clock. Called"Couroc Old Clock Tray" by Couroc of Monterey California Really nice shape for one of these. No cracks or chips. very minor wear. These are made of a phenolic resin they created themselves- Bakelite is also a phenolic resin of different makeup- and is hand carved. Inlaid with fine woods, brass and other metals, shells and stones, bronze, coral, etc. so no two are exactly alike, they are works of art, one of a kind, handmade by artisans. Also. Many designs were one or two of a kind, then they'd vary them. if this one had the label attached, you'd see that the clocks aren't arranged according to the label most of these had, for instance. Judging from the(lack of) label, ... moreit is probably from the 50's,or the 60's, perhaps even one of the first designs- it is a hard to find one, and they went to embossing later as things became more mass produced. Couroc of Monterey California started around 1948. These were very high end items. Esp. in the entertainment industry, where they were favored as gifts. What a Find! Vintage Atomic Pink Ball Clock from the 1950's. The Clock is Keeping time. It mounts to the Wall. Found at a recent sale. Looks like owner painted it Pink. Nice match with the Black clock hands! Measures 13.25" The Ball Clock(1949) was the first of more than 150 clocks designed by George Nelson Associates for the Howard Miller Clock Company. Which sold them from 1949 into the 1980s. Nelson Associates, first launched as a studio by George Nelson in 1947 in New York City.
