Plus several Illustrations at the back of the Book. The FIRST SECTION is the REPORT made on the RECENT ATTACK ON FORT PILLOW by REBEL FORCES. And THE TRUTH OF THE RUMORED SLAUGHTER OF UNION TROOPS AFTER THEIR SURRENDER. The SECOND SECTION is the REPORT made on the CONDITON OF THE RETURNED UNION PRISONERS. Was fought on April 12, 1864, at Fort Pillow on the Mississippi River in Henning, Tennessee, during the American Civil War. The battle ended with a massacre of Federal Black Troops, some while attempting to surrender, by soldiers under the Command of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest. This is a wonderful one-sixth plate daguerreotype of a mother holding her deceased baby. The mother wears a plaid silk( dress with a white collar. In the style of the 1850s. The baby wears a bonnet and christening gown. The image is in excellent condition. The glass has one elongated bubble. The case has no interior velvet liner, and the front and back covers are not of the same pattern, although they fit together perfectly. I can post more photos if necessary; this is the condition in which I found the piece. The subjects are not identified. Please ask any questions. It is a fine piece. Three vintage pin service awards for the International Association Of Machinists. The three pins honor 15. 20 and 25 years of service. The 15 year pin has a back mark that says B.B. Co 1/10 G.F. It looks like the Company's circular logo/trademark is under the pin itself. The 20 year pin has a back mark that says: B.B. Co. 10k G.F. and the company trademark is fully visible. The 25 year pin has a back mark of Bastian with the circular trademark. The pins measure approximately 1/2" on each side of the triangle. These are pre-worn pins. Please see photos for condition. Promotional brass paper holder/hanger like clipboard. Made by C.H. Hanson, then of Chicago. Clip is beautifully enameled with images between art nouveau and art deco. Promotes the‘Kewanee Pipe Union’ A plumbing item for water or steam that connected two threaded pipes. Beautiful patina consistent with piece of this age. cloisonné-style enamel is 99% there. Spring is still quite strong, hinge is robust and peened rod is tight and not going anywhere. The union was made by The Western Tube Co. of. You guessed it, Kewanee, Illinois, and was around early enough to show up in a 1907 issue of Domestic Engineering, so who knows how old the clip is, 20s to‘40s I suppose. C.H. Hanson has been around since the civil war. With facilities here and there over time, now in Napier, Ill. NEAR MINT(9) The book is almost perfect. With any defects being unnoticeable to the untrained eye. FINE(8) Defects are noticeable. But extremely small in number and size NEAR FINE(7) Defects are slightly more numerous. Or larger in size. NEAR FINE- 6) Defects are still likely to go unnoticed by an untrained observer. But are obvious to a professional. VERY GOOD(5) The most common condition. Jacket showing wearing along the edges.
