Singer Heavy Duty 201 Sewing Machine FULLY REFURBISHED, With Or Without Cabinet
This machine was fully refurbished four months ago by an old guy who worked for Singer for over 40 years. Retired, and now comes in at a local shop twice a week. He seems to know everything about every machine Singer ever made and the 201/201-2 is his favorite. His complete tune up included cleaning and rewiring the motor, removing all old grease and refilling the cups, polishing the armature, adjusting the bobbin winder, setting the timing and tension, and rewiring where necessary. For example, the three-prong power cord is supple and uncracked, so he didn't replace it. The serial number is AE26340 and it was built in 1937. The cabinet top measures 17 by 22 and it stands 31 inches high. There's an odd. Dribbly-like discoloration just above the gold label. I've done my share of paint stripping and this looks exactly like what ... morewould happen if some stripper had briefly dribbled down the machine and left a dull, smudgy finish. It's not sticky or gooey, just dull and not as smooth as the finish is everywhere else. I seriously doubt that anyone dribbled paint stripper on this machine, but I have no idea what caused it. The Singermeister said the cabinet isn't a Singer. And as a result, apparently there are a few places where the fit is slightly(like 1/8 inch) off, which is something only a serious Singer fan would even notice. The cabinet is in excellent shape, with some typical surface scratches. Also included are a number of attachments- a buttonholer with 9 templates and the other items shown in the photo. Plus a xerox copy of the full. Original instruction manual, which also includes instructions for the attachments. Because the machine is so heavy. It works fine on a tabletop by itself and that's how many people use one. So your bid is just for the machine. I have for sale an Montgomery Wards Signature Extra Heavy Duty Straight stitch sewing machine. With a whopping 1.3 amp motor. This machine is a quiet, powerful BEAST! I have tested it on denim, 8 layers of canvas, and it chomps right through. You can't go full speed ahead over a thick seam, but if you go slowly and carefully, it sews even thick seams well. Going fast is a recipe for broken needles, dings in the needle plate and bad words from the operator! I even put in a#120 needle. With button thread, and it still made perfect stitches. I did have to tighten the tension, but that is to be expected. When I use a big needle and thick thread on my industrial Singer 31-15, I have to do the same thing, or the stitches pull to the back. I have an alterations/creative sewing business, and adjusting tension to adapt to different fabrics, needles ... moreand thread is an everyday thing. One more nice thing also about this machine is a"non-jamming" needle race- see picture above. The two slits will cut thread that threatens to jam the needle race before it can actually get in there and jam the machine. I have another machine that has this feature, and it(again) save bad words on the part of the sewing machine operator! One thing I noticed when I was testing it is that it is a pain to thread. like my industrials. and it is much easier to cut the thread at the spool, knot it with the new thread, and then pull it through till you get to the needle. The tension spring is one where you have to thread it through(backwards, such fun. instead of just catching it on the upswing like many other machines. This would be a wonderful machine to bring on your boat to mend sails. Or keep in your shop. It will do a terrific job on those heavy duty jobs that a modern machine just can't handle. It is not an industrial, however, and is not made to go 24/7. This is the perfect machine for repairs, small projects(new seat cover needed? and the like. Vintage Sears Kenmore 158.17550 HEAVY DUTY Sewing Machine w/ Case& Cams& Feet VIDEO: Well-made& well-kept ALL METAL Kenmore machine. This thing does everything! It handles lightweight. Delicate fabrics, denim, leather, and upholstery with ease. Whatever you feed it comes out looking great. The stitch quality is superb. It has a built in straight. Zigzag, and blind hem stitch, and can also use decorative cams- this machine is coming with a full set of 30 in their original case! It also has a built in reverse button. This is a portable machine that has its original carrying case. The case is in great condition; very clean. No cracks, fully functioning. It does have a few scuff marks and some rust on the locks, but overall it looks good. The machine has been cleaned. Oiled, greased and buffed. It is super clean, inside and out, and ... morethe paint has an amazing shine. There are a few small knicks to the paint and some scratches on the metal face plate. Neither is major, and the machine has been well-kept for 4 decades. See the pictures. The machine has been fully tested- every stitch and knob are working as they should.
