Up for auction is this antique McCormick-Deering hand crank stone sickle sharpener. It's made out of cast iron and is all there. I bought this only because it looked like something"Rube Goldberg" would make!It was covered with a 100 years of barn dirt so I gave it a quick pressure wash just to see what was under all the dirt and grease. This measures approx. 16" x 1 2" x 10" Not including the handle. You can still see some of the original red paint. After I took the photos I sprayed it down with WD-40. It needs a more thorough cleaning and then a coat of paint or just leave it as is. This rare item really belongs in a museum or a collection! Please ask any questions. I accept PayPal only. It is in good condition except for one of the handles is missing as can be seen in the pictures but then again I am not sure if that is the way it is supposed to be. Its measurements are about 35" tall x 30" long at the base of the legs x 20" wide to the ends of the handles. The stone grinding wheel itself is 17" in diameter x 2 5/8" thick. I would ask for local pick up only on this wheel because it is very heavy and also I would be afraid to ship it as it might get broken. Manual Diamond Sliding Bar Grind Stone Sharpener Jig
You are bidding on a manual sliding bar grind stone sharpening Jig. The large outside square is 1 1/2" wide. 1 3/8" high, 4 1/2" long and comes apart with screws. It has a 1/2" square bar about 7" long that has a diamond dresser on one end and a round knurled nut on other end. The machinist or toolmaker puts this on magnetic table and manually works the 1/2" bar back and forth to sharpen grind stone. There is about 1 3/4" travel on it so as to be able to sharpen a grind stone that is at least 1 5/8" wide or less.There is no up and down slop or side to side slop when you move this back and forth. It measure 1 7/8" wide x 7 13/16" long x 3/4" thick and has a very smooth surface. This one is not wildly figured like some you will see online. But the signature swirls and woodgrain figuring are still there. This hone is likely mined a long time ago, it came in a lot along with joinery and woodworking tools from the UK dating back as far as the mid 1800's. It was in a rather dingy oil soaked wood box that I have since discarded. It was previously used with oil, but has been throuhgly degreased and now using it with water only is no problem. It has been lapped perfectly flat on top and bottom ... moresurfaces all the way up to 800grit silicon carbide wet and dry sandpaper, chamfered on all edges and is ready for use. I have only experimented with it a little bit, but it is a mid-grit or pre-finishing hone which I would guess lands in the 5K-7K range. Note that all of the photos are of the hone wet. Except for the last 3 which are when dry. Please inspect the photos closely and ask any questions that you may have. Check my feedback and see how pleased previous bidders have been with my items.
