Joseph G. Darlington(1842-1908) Civil War veteran, businessman, and Secretary and later, President of the Union League. The Union League of Philadelphia was founded in 1862 as a patriotic society to support the Union and the policies of President Abraham Lincoln. It raised funds for the war effort, and made an enormous contribution to the Union victory. Ulysses S. Grant had a close connection to the League. When the Civil war broke out Mr. Darlington enlisted as a private in the Hamilton Rifle Corps. His regiment being mustered out in the spring of 1863. And Darlington re-enlisted in the Thirty-second Pennsylvania Infantry, and served until the end of the war. A cut autograph of Joseph G. Darlington. Glued to card. Other signatures include his father Samuel Powell Darlington and Amos-Warren De Coster. Descendent of Isaac De Coster(De Costa) ... morewho settled in Boston approx. 1699.
