This is an Orvis Battenkill 2/2 4 ounce bamboo fly rod. This rod was rarely ever fished. It is in absolute excellent condition. All sections are straight and original length. The ferrules are tight and wraps are perfect. I contaced Orvis and they conformed it was built by Ron White in 1990 SERIAL NUMBER 87802. It comes with a soft case and a hard tube case. This one is not marked as to the weight line it is balanced for. Typical of Phillipson but it is a two piece 5 weight 7 1/2 foot rod. It even throws a 4 weight line well in my back yard. We do not have a bag or tube for this rod. This one is in spectacular condition for a used rod. Both pieces are exactly the same length. All of the eyes and wraps match. The downlocking seat moves effortlessly and has no dents. The logo on the rod is clear and complete. So no repairs on this one. There is some darkening and slight wear on the cork from using but no damage or hook picking. H.L. Leonard Bamboo Fly Rod 7 1/2 Foot 2 3/4 oz-Two Tips and Mid Section-Tube
For your consideration is a lovely. Pre-fire, three piece H.L. Leonard bamboo fly rod. All sections full length-30 5/16 ths inches. Original tube, and perhaps original sack although no tag. Bought from a prominent patron of the arts, collector and fisherman's estate. Appears in original condition with a couple of exceptions. Looks to me like there are two re-wrapped guides and one ferrule. Some of the silks are dry, and could use a coat of varnish, however, all guides and ferrules are tight. Nice pop when removing sections and plenty of room left in the ferrules. Butternut reel seat has a slight down cast to it? Not loose and cork grip is straight with the rod. Also previous owner modified( maybe sanded) the reel seat slightly to better fit a reel. Reels still fit tightly under the band, just don't have to fight to get the reel foot ... morein place. Appears to be old original varnish that looks pretty good, with couple of small exceptions and blemishes. Under a magnifying glass hair line cracks are visible, but for the most part rod is in good fishable condition and I think the bamboo is still protected by the varnish in all but a few places, which can be touched up. Also, several black crusty spots(please see photos) on butt section down in the varnish about seventh intermediate wrap from cork. Perhaps dried mold? Cork has some ridging. Also, not a slot in the sack for the extra mid-section. All that being said, this is a beautiful and well cared for older Leonard that is collectable but also ready to take fishing just as it is. Rod is approximately 2 3/4 oz and is straight with exception of slight deviation of the tips toward the end. I would characterize as medium-soft action. And will throw a DT 4 nicely,so in my research I would guess this rod was a Catskill Model designed for wet fly fishing. Should protect.003 and.004 tippets. This G. Loomis Model GF-704 has been kept in excellent condition save the small cork defect previously discussed. If one is a perfectionist. And this bothers you, here is what I would do: To bring it back to perfection one can cut a small section of cork from an old handle. Epoxy the underside of the cork piece and wrap packaging tape around the handle compressing the cork patch tightly to the cork handle. Once the epoxy dries remove the tape and sand the patch so as to match the rest of the handle. When I worked at True Temper/ Montague this is how we would make such small repairs. This is a gorgeous GF-704! It is 90% graphite composite. And the entire rod weighs a mere 3 oz. Where the rod blank enters the cork it is.257" in diameter. Where the rod blank enters the tip guide it is.083" I believe the photographs show well the aluminum ... morerod case with a rubber-gasketed. Aluminum, screw-on cap. Vintage Fiberglass Fenwick FF 756 7 1/2 Foot Fly Rod Mint Condition
This is a vintage fenwick fiberglass 2 piece 7 1/2 foot fly rod in mint condition. Rod comes with a fenwick tube and sock but I don't believe they are the correct size. Numbers don't match up. Rod was manufactured in the USA. Lines guides are very tight and glossy with no damage. Labels are very clean and reel seat fenwick engraving very sharp. See pictures. Model is FF 756.
