Smallstream Split Bamboo Fly rod 3/1-7.5 ft.- 4 wt
This is a newly rebuilt Smallstream split bamboo fly rod in three piece with single tip seven and a half foot long in four weight. The rod is built from a Southbend eight and a half footer which was shortened at the male ferrules. We used all premium components including a nickle silver cap and ring reelseat on a maple wood insert and a western style cork grip in"A" grade. The line guides tip top and stripper are chrome the hookeeper is silver ring type.The cane is finished with the coats of spar varnish and is wrapped in white and black classic twist. We lawn cast the rod and suggest four weight DT line the action is medium.

It appears to have been a English rod approximate 7'3" assembled. The ferrule ends have a knurled detail. The reel seat is cork continuing down from the grip with a nicely knurled locking ring band. There is a nice hook saver above the winding check. The rod is a 2/2. Two-piece, 2-tip with all sections straight. The butt section above the grip is inked"Rebuilt By Omar H. Needham Rangeley, ME. 4447-68" It cast a 4/5 wt. line. It comes in its cloth sack and brass capped rod tube. Here is a brief history of Mr. Needham quoted from Cententenial Publications. Omar H. VINTAGE RARE HORROCKS IBBOTSON SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD - 8' 7"
This vintage split bamboo fly rod was made by Horrocks Ibbotson of Utica. N.Y. The three piece rod comes with an extra tip and each section measures 35 1/4" for just under 9' when put together. The rod is in very good condition with no splits or cracks and an intact cork handle. All chrome is shiny and the varnish shows no signs of wear. The H-I label is half torn off. It appears that someone etched-Davis-in very small letters in a section of the rod under the cork handle but it could be easily covered up. I know very little about fishing rods. This is a split bamboo casting or fly fishing pole or rod. It looks like new to me. But its dated 1980 and signed J.K. The guy at the fishing store told me it is an expensive, collectible pole. and had a fantastic feel. light and snap. There are 7 guides and the handle is cork. It is approx. 87" or 7' 3" long. It all looks new to me except for some aging on the metal parts of the handle. VINTAGE ORIGINAL POST WWII 7 PIECE SPLIT BAMBOO FLY/CAST FISHING ROD KIT This auction is for a vintage seven piece Post WW II split bamboo fly and casting rod combination kit with original wooden storage box. There is“Vicki” decal on the box. The kit includes 12 assorted hand tied flies. Leader material, wooden leader holder, snelled hooks and a unique pair of scissors all protected by a plastic covering. The rod can be assembled into a three piece 8’ fly rod or a two piece 5.6’ casting rod. All sections measure 32 ½” There is also an extra bottom section. I would estimate the fly line weight to be a three-four. The 6 1/4” cork handle is in very good condition. The reel seat holder is slightly bent but it still mounts a fly reel solidly(see picture– the fly reel is not part of the auction) There is a dent on the side on the reel seat ... morewhich will not affect its use. There is a ¼” split on one of bottom section which also will not affect its use. There are two snake eye guides on the fly rod mid section and three on each tip section. The casting tip section has three guides. There is a stripper guide and hook keeper on the bottom section. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled and has the distinct“pop” sound when pulled apart. All of the sections are straight. The wooden storage box is functional condition. It has some wear near one of corners(see picture) The brownstone colored cane and varnish finish are excellent. Here for your consideration is a very nicely done vintage custom split bamboo fly rod I picked up on Prince Edward Island years ago. As seen in the photos. It is a three piece rod with two tips. All pieces are straight,wraps are tight, and all guides are there.Beautiful red and green thread used on wraps. Has hook keeper and down locking reel seat. Each section measures an exact 34 1/2" making the rod length an unusual 8'7" when put together. This rod is in great condition overall. I'm calling it a 6 wt. only because it felt best casting a 6 as opposed to an 8 wt. or 4 wt.I'll let you be the judge. Guides, tip, up locking reel seat and cork handle. Rod is 2 piece, with 2 rod tip sections. Varnish is fairly consistent with a few"warming" spots and nicely wrapped. Cork handle is in good shape, with 1 small area of chipping, most likely from owner's use to secure hooks at that spot. See photos for details. Has rod sock(no tag or name) but no hard case. The diamater of the ferrules is 1/4" with no damage or repair(see close up photos) Both tip sections are indentical and measure 45 3/4" in length. This lightweight four-section pack rod is all original and is in pristine condition. It was always stored in the sock and tube in a non-smoking, temperature-controlled environment. I would describe this lively rod as having medium to fast action and plenty of backbone. A four-section“pack rod” is tricky to design due to the shorter section length and need for three sets of ferrules. However, Dunton clearly knew how to get this right and the action and curvature of the rod are wonderfully smooth!
