Sage remains, to this day, perhaps the go-to company when it comes to larger-weight freshwater and saltwater sticks. Superb finishing and high-end guides, this rod was ahead of its time and still preffered by many over its top-of-the line successors, be it the Xi series, the Z-Axis or the One. Without question, the 790-4 XP started it all and remains the benchmark for which all others are compared. Beautiful handle and a great grip not requiring monster mitts or paws. Normally on older rods like this one, the cork is stained and weathered, and the rod blanks are sometimes chipped or scratched. This rod seems almost brand new, even though it's somewhat old. The reel seat is solid and looks very lightly used. The threads are smooth and precise. It's a lock down style, meaning the reel is seated at the very bottom of the rod, and the locking ring slides down onto the reel from above. Up for bid is(1) Allen 790-4 xa fly rod in like new condition. This 9' 7wt rod has been a backup to my Sage 6wt. And 8wt spey and has not gotten it's fair share of use over the last year or so. Cleaning out some of my rods. Comes with original velour sock and tube. Blank(blue) is in excellent condition and the handle shows slight normal wear. Allen Fly Fishing describe their Xa fly rod as being of"medium fast action and the most versatile"workhorse" of the line-up. It has been their best selling rod for a couple of years now. The rod fit& finish is in Mint Used Condition. The gloss finish is perfect as is the guides. reel seat and wraps. The only sign of use is some minimal discoloration on the cork grip. SAGE XP 790-4 FLY FISHING ROD 9FT 7WT Graphite IIIe and Snowbee XS Floating WF7 Line. Complete with tube. Bag and warranty card. The rod is in fantastic condition. It has only been used a handful of times. No damage and there is only one tiny scratch that i can see on the join where i presume a small bit of grit has got in as i have put the rod together. The cork almost looks new, no scratches to the reel seat and all the snakes and eyes are in perfect condition. Usually after i had been fishing i would always wipe the rod down with clean fresh water and would buff the rod with a polishing cloth. There are a few little dents on the cap of the tube as seen in the photo but it doesnt effect the cap in any way and is not bent and screws on smoothly. I am only selling this rod as i have a 5wt and 8wt therefore i never use this one anymore and ... morei hate to see great rods sat in the dark! I will also throw in a Snowbee XS WF7 Floating Line.
