This paperweight was made for the Bernstein Manufacturing Company that made mattresses. Bed frames etc. It was copyrighted by Edward Joseph Van Landeghem of North Wales, PA on November 14, 1918. The copyright text reads"Model of figure in pajamas standing on mattress with hand to mouth yawning. That describes it better than I can. The heavy metal paperweight weighs about two pounds and is 3.75" tall. Across the front is the Komfo Yawn logo. This was made by pouring some sort of metal into a mold and as this was done quickly and cheaply. There is evidence of bubbles in the mold that appear as bubbles on the bottom of the figure and the back. This has been handled over the years and has a nice patina- it has a silver color- some areas of the figure were polished smooth in the manufacturing and the rest left with a rough finish. There ... moreis some light rusting to the surface which does not in any way detract nor will it damage the solid metal figure. Nothing has been done to clean this item. It displays very nicely. Measuring 54" in total length. It is a round metal rod that has 2 eyes wrapped in copper wraps and a rod eye tip. The cast metal handle has a cork grip which is clean, solid and complete and the cast section is clean and shows no damage. The reel seat is marked SMOOTH-CASTER BETTS MFG CO DETROIT 16, MICH PAT PENDING. The eyes and rod tip eye are tight and free of damage but do have some tarnishing. The metal rod is straight and has been cleaned as there is surface pitting on the metal. I have other rods for auction this week and can combine shipping on up to 2 at a time. This block pulley has a wood exterior and then 3 wheels made of some sort of metal. The wood frame shows wear and tear. Some splitting and loss of paint. The 3 wheels do not move freely. I do not see a makers mark on the piece. Not sure if this was from maritime or manufacturing use. Appears to be a dark green paint on the wood frame. Offered is a Vintage Metal Manufacturing Multi-Use Square singed Darling. Brown and Sharpe, Providence, R. I. This tool is very solid and strong. The triangular head on the tool is a solid piece of metal with the blade being attached in mortises with screws. The upper side of the blade is marked as a measuring tool like a ruler with increments of 16ths. on one edge and 12ths. on the opposite edge. The under side of the blade bears a makers mark as shown above- Darling. Brown& Sharpe, Providence R. I. The head of the tool, being triangular allows for the tool being used for multiple purposes as it can be used to lay out 90 degree angles extending along the length of the blade, 90 degree corners ... moreby using the triangular head of the square and 45 degree angles in either direction. The metal is relatively free of corrosion and any other damage although remember it is older and not new or in perfect condition. This is a nice square that should provide years of service or could also be a wonderful addition to a vintage tool collection so bid, bid, bid.
