Antique HEARTH WARE Fireplace FIRE STAND (No Tools) BRASS Nautical MARITIME, 40"
Up for bid is the antique Nautical/ Maritime Theme FIREPLACE/ FIRE TOOLS STAND ONLY(no tools are included) from the late 19th/ early 20th century. As seen in the pictures/ as described in the title. Very RARE piece being offered for sale AS-FOUND, uncleaned, unmodified condition. Made entirely of 100% solid brass(excluding non-original hardware, see below) Very heavy! It has some issues. Feet/legs are fragile, loose and unstable. They have had breaks& repairs and remain in desperate need of further repair. If not repair/reinforced, this stand will likely fold/collapse under its own weight. Again, you WILL have to restore/repair/brace the feet/legs or it will, in time break itself. Connection of feet to shaft is via'mish-mashed' non-matching, non-original hardware(see last 2 pics) One of the(5) original hooks is missing(far left ... moreone) and some of the others look like they've been repaired. Top piece attacheds to the pole via a threaded screw atop the shaft. Either the aforementioned screw piece and/or the female end(of the top piece) is slightly damaged/stripped, making attaching the two a little difficult and spins crooked. Ultimately, it attaches snug and securely but with a bit of lean. The top-middle and top-left flags are bent backwards approx. 10-15 degrees. Extremely fine detail to the Ship and Water. Brilliant curves. Highly ornate accents throughout. Fantastic, rich patina. Only text marking on the piece reads"DON FERNANDO" at front of ship(named"Spanish Galleon" I see no other visible marker's mark(s) Cosmetic condition is as clearly& accurately shown in the pictures. Please inspect all of them carefully. Measures approx. 40-1/2 tall. Overall. The top/boat only(from top up shaft, up) is 24-1/4" tall x 15-1/4" wide and the brass varies in thickness from approx. 3/16" to 3/8" Twisted shaft is approx. 1" diameter. The dignified cast iron Guard wears full regalia with exquisite detail from neck ruff to garter and shoe rosettes. The tools are especially clever. The standard he holds houses a heavy, removable poker sword, marked"178" the tongs have bird-like claw ends. The shovel and brush are worn but serviceable. Shovel, brush and tongs are made of a lighter weight metal with an attractive twisted shaft, all appear to have been painted grey at one time, but most of the paint has worn off. Offered today is this rare antique cast iron fireside companion stand depicting a British guard/ soldier. The stand is hand painted in the Royal Life uniform colors. The stand measures 21 1/2" tall without the removable brush which adds another 12" to the height. The weight is 7 pounds. There is a hook on the back for additional fire tools. The condition is good but has a small amount of paint loss from being used over the years. The stand would benefit from a good cleaning. On the underside it is marked made in England as well as on the backside. In addition the base is marked"registered" and the number 152. I found a similar stand that sold at Christies for around $1000.sale 15465. We are offering this wonderful stand with no reserve so good luck!

These are early 20th C. Arts and Crafts owl handled fire tools with a matching stand. These sets are often attributed to Rostland Manufacturing Company. Milford, CT, but I am not sure of their maker. The stand is marked"651-1" MADE IN USA" The set is missing a brush that would have sat on the rear of the stand. The poker, tongs and shovel are 26.5"L, and the stand is 27"H with a 9.5"x7" base. There is significant oxidation of the finish from use in a fire place. Further, the stand's handle turns slightly, but this does not affect its use. The tools and stand are well made. Up for bid is the antique FIREPLACE STAND with matching SHOVEL& POKER TOOLS(no brush. Tongs, ETC) as seen in the pictures/ as described in the title. AS-FOUND, uncleaned condition. Excellent patina. Clean to the touch(meaning that the tool ends are not covered in charcoal) The decorative top pieces, the base, circle rail/columns and the(4) feet are all solid brass. The shaft is steel, either plated with brass or painted to match(I am unsure) The tops of both tools and the shovel's head are also solid brass. Both shafts are steel. The poker's tip is cast iron. The underside of the top piece of the stand is marked"357 JEWEL" No other visible markings. Cosmetic condition is as clearly shown in the pictures. The stand measures approx. 29-1/2" tall x 7-1/2" diameter at the base. The top surface of the base sits ... moreup 1" off the ground/floor. The shovel is 30-1/2" long. Overall. The poker, 25" Total weight is 7 lbs 1.5 oz. I may or may not partially disassemble the stand to reduce the shipping box size. From prehistoric implements through 16th-19th century devices of brass and iron, early matches and Victorian match boxes, tinder boxes, tinder pistols, and much, much more. An essential book for the lighting enthusiast. A supplementary volume as issued in 1928. South Kensington's Science Museum which now holds the collection, notes- Bryant and May Ltd. was for many years a company world-famous for the manufacture of what was once one of the most familiar of fire-making appliances– the box of matches. From 1861 billions of matches were made at a factory. The Fairfield Works, in Bow, east ... moreLondon until in 1979 the work was transferred to Liverpool(factory since closed) In its earlier years the company developed an interest in the history of fire-making and eventually opened a large private museum in its offices at Bow. The collection was initially formed through the efforts of a dedicated private individual, Edward Bidwell, and was supplemented in 1927 by additional exhibits collected by J H Daniels. The museum was cared for by Miller Christy, another private collector who brought his own knowledge and enthusiasm to it. Christy compiled an extensive printed catalogue of the collection in the mid-1920s which was published by Bryant and May Ltd in 1926, a supplement following two years later. During the 1930s selected items from Bryant and May’s museum were displayed at the Science Museum and this led to the whole collection being transferred in 1937. Beautiful. Antique, brass, nautical/maritime theme fireplace tool stand with 5 tools. The galleon is stamped"Don Fermando" but have seen some described as"Don Fernando" The sails have their steel"ropes" still intact. The ornate tool hooks are all intact/sturdy and look kind of like little guys. Again, one of the screws that connects the ship to the stand doesn't match the other-but certainly isn't noticable. The entire stand is very sturdy and in very good shape. The tools are all original and include a shovel. Log holder, tray, poker and broom. Each tool has a miniture brass ship at the top. This entire piece is solid brass, except the broom portion of the broom tool. This is truly a beautiful set and is very heavy. It measures 46" tall X 15" wide X 16" base width.
