Vintage Mid Century Child's School Desk & Chair - Heavy Duty Wood & Steel
Unlike the modern desks from the 60's and recent which were built with plywood. This one is made with actual wood(not sure of the type) It's heavy and very well made. The chair swivels and I think that both the chair and desk's height may be adjustable. It finally got above freezing and I decided to start working on clearing out my garage. DESCRIPTION: Truly amazing over-the-top"oyster" olive? burl patchwork wood executive two-drawer desk by Mastercraft. High quality construction. Brass frame. Thick, glossy coated resin finish to patchwork of burl puzzled together in a vibrant, rich deep golden brown. I like the bronze patina to the brass but it could be polished to a gold gleam which would further accent the wood. The square brass tubing legs are finished with adjustable round brass feet caps. Heavy and solid. The sub-frame of the desk is thick plywood. There is a wide brass trim detail under the resin within the center top of the desk. I couldn't find a Mastercraft label but have seen a similar desk online for attribution. The rich wood detailing is reminiscent of Paul Evans or karl Springer designs. CONDITION: Overall very good condition. Brass has age related ... morepatina. Some oxidation and a couple areas of discoloration where tape was removed. Light surface abrasions to thick resin coating. No deep scratches. Antique Roll Top Desk 1900-1950 Dark Wood Tone
This desk was found in a courthouse basement in Arkansas back in the early seventies when my father was county Judge. Have tried to locate any information on it but not very successful. Locks on it were made by Eagle lock Co. which went out of business in the early fifties. I've seen refurbished desks of this style listed for 1500.00. There are a few loose and missing pieces from drawers that can easily be replaced. Cable is detached from right side of roll cover. Has been used in a home for 40 years and not stored.
