Up for auction here is a fantastic antique 19th century wooden sewing box. It is dated 1880 on the bottom. It had tambour doors on it. But one of the doors is missing. The other door is missing the knob. The top is a little loose. Other than those issues, it's in very nice condition. These with the tambour doors are extremely hard to find. I don't see any chips or other damage. Normal signs of wear for a piece of this age. Finish is original and very rich. Measures 11 3/8" tall x 8 3/4" wide x 4 3/4" deep. Guaranteed authentic. Rare Retro Danish Teak Wood Writing Desk With a Lift up Vanity Mirror Section From a local estate sale is this wonderful Teak Wood Desk. It can be used as a writing desk or a make-up vanity. It has three small pull out drawers on the inside with the middle drawer having a lift up mirror and there are three larger drawers below the desk area. The inside of the desk also has a couple of cubby shelves. If you look below the second shelf you can see someone has cut a small hole to pass cords through. I could not find any markers markings but I am guessing from other items in the house of this estate sale it is Danish and probably from the 60's or 70’s. These great vintage bookends by Enesco are in the style of antique school desks and are made of wood and cast iron. Little red& green painted wooden books titled. Writing, Reading, Arithmetic& History" are attached to the desk backs. The books. Base and desk tops are made of wood and the desk legs are made of ornamental cast iron. This Secretary Desk was purchased in New York@ the end of the 19th Century and was passed down from my great great Grandmother finally to me. I couldn’t find any specific maker or label anywhere. But I just might not know where to look. It’s in pretty good overall condition considering its age. My Grandmother said it was from 1897( 115 years old) She died in 1982 and I have had it since. There is one portion near the top edge( second to last pic) which must have come off when I moved last year, but it seems nominal and the repair should be straight forward. I was able to simply hide this in a right side corner configuration and it was not really noticeable unless you were looking for it. The Grand Rapids Historical Commission shows some examples of Stow& Davis marks and labels from 1911 thru 1989 and the label on this desk does not match any that they show for these periods. Antique School Desk and Chair Adjustable Metal Legs Wood Top Kenney & Wolkins
Charming antique school desk and chair. Made by Kenney Bros. and Wolkins of Boston. MA, this set has nuts in the supports to allow for each piece to have its height adjusted. The legs of the desk and pedestal of the chair are black painted metal and have holes for securing them to the floor. The desk top and seat of the chair look like they are made of maple. The inside of the desk has been painted a soft green color and there is a hole in the desk top for holding an inkwell. This desk dates from sometime between 1902(when Kenney Bros. and Wolkins merged) and 1930, which is when the company changed its name and discontinued furniture making. The desk and chair are both in very good condition. Although these pieces were obviously put to their intended use. There is some wear to the surfaces, including marks on the desk top and edge and a gouge ... morenear the top of the desk. See pictures. It also looks like an industrous student carved their initials in the side of the desk. There is also some hairline separation to the seat of the chair at the back. Unsure if the height adjustment is functional- it has been many years since it was used and may need some TLC. Otherwise no damage or repairs. The desk top is 24" long and 18" wide and at its pictured height the desk stands 29" tall. The chair is 16" wide and has a seat that is 13 1/4" deep. It stands 30" tall at its current height. Solid wood antique secretary desk with matching dresser. Both are dove tailed wood connections with brass inlays. Purchased at high end auction and sure did pay for them. These are hand made with sold wood, solid wood drawers. Skeleton key. Lock is stage 2, marked SC&S. Please see pictures for details. We are not experts in the field of antiques so not comfortable giving an exact date on these pieces but based on other similar pieces with similar lock markings believe them to be late 19th century to early 20th. Antique school desk. Except for hardware the desk top and cubby are made entirely of wood. Desktop does have a crack in the top of it with a little accompaning warp traveling the entire length of the desktop. See picture# 3. However there is a conspicuous lack of scratching. Gouging or grafitti. I don`t think this was ever sanded down either. The steel base may have been painted over at some time as I see brush marks in the paint job. Whatever the case it was done a long time ago. I`m pretty sure this was made for younger kids. I don`t think any kid beyond third or fourth grade would be comfortable in this all day. The size of the seat and base are a little on the small side. The top however is full sized. It also is old enough to be sporting an ink well hole. Seat is in great shape. Nothing loose. If you leave that screw loose the seat swivels. Thats a nice bonus but it only works if the seats all the way down. Base measures 28 1/4 x 18 1/4 inches. Weight without packaging apprx. 45 lbs. vintage industrial factory metal desk workbench table mercantile wood top
You are considering a vintage industrial metal desk with two drawers. The metal portion of the desk was salvaged out of an old factory by a friend. I cleaned it up. And then added a 3-board, rough cut lumber top. I lightly sanded the boards so there are both smooth and rough places on the wood. I whipped up my own version of gray stain trying to match the desk color. It was close, but regardless it works. Wherever the boards were rough, that area took the stain better than the smooth areas which gave me the look I was after. I have misplaced one of the rollers for the small drawer so it is working very rough. The big drawer works fine. As with any old piece you can expect scratches, dings, dents. chipped paint, knot holes, imperfections and surface rust. Please refer to the pictures.
