Antique INDUSTRIAL 1930's Children's SCHOOL DESK Wood and Steel Classroom DESK
This Antique School Desk is a wonderful piece of classroom history. Measuring 20 1/2" long and 14" wide. The desk top is made of a light wood, possibly birch. It has a spot for an inkwell and a carved indentation for a pencil. The desk top is attached to a sturdy steel cubbyhole opening which measures 19 1/2" long, 9" wide, and 5" deep and was used for storing books and school supplies. The compartment is bolted to a pair of durable steel legs. Overall, this School Desk stands 28" tall. Circa 1930's. This Antique School Desk is in good condition with some scratches and surface wear from age and rambunctious classroom use. There are scratches in the wood desk top, but it's minimal considering the hundreds of children that have sat at it. This is an awesome addition to any vintage decor! Great historical ... morepiece! I have two as shown but this listing is for just one of them. The joints have metal brackets as shown. I have not tried to take them off but they both need some TLC. Also.On one of them two of the castors come off if you lift up the chair but I'm sure this is an easy fix. It looks like they were adjustable at one time but someone put brackets on the bottom to keep it from adjusting. I took quite a few pictures to show any damage and the brackets. The one on the left also has brackets on the base but the one on the right does not. They do however still swivel. Drawer appears to be all handmade and joints hand cut. Needs some tender loving care as it is in fair shape. Pictures pretty well show any discrepancies. Somewhere along its life someone added some finishing nails& removed a drawer divider from about half way back. Lock assy(NO KEY) is all brass except for the throw which appears to be steel and measures 1" x 1/8" thick. Lock assy measures 1 3/4 x 2 3/8 x 1/2" thick. It is 29-1/4" to desk top when opened. H.E. Shaw Company was in operation in Grand Rapids from 1911 until 1933. Has 2 drawers and 10 cubby holes. Has lockable top. But I don't have a key for it. There was a repair made under one corner with metal braces, I guess it was wobbly. It is solid now, no problems. It has a satin finish on it now or you can recoat it if you want shiny. Neat inlays and borders. it measures 12.5 long by 8 wide by 5 tall. the inside has compartments, and hinged covers on the inside. the hinge on the left side of the top inside is loose, and the felt has disintegrated from the boards on the inside and the bottom. there is a removable pencil holder. the desk is solid and has no damage other than the broken hinge on the inside. see my other auctions for more neat old items. Wooden legs have a nice spindle look. Base writing area pulls ou t for more writing and ha s finger grooves to pull out base. Antique Wood & Cast Iron 2' Tall A.S Co. Student Desk w/ Folding Seat & Ink Well
This little desk is in great shape. The seat folds up and down easily. And the manufacturer can be seen plainly on the side(although the sun was so bright that I couldn't get a good photo of that. There are little worm holes all over the desk which, to me, add to the character. I would prefer local pickup, but will deliver within a 50 mile radius of 75651 zip code for a fee. Vintage 1940's 1950's Childrens Desk. This childs desk is a seat combined with a desk that has many functions. It has a removeable chalk board that reversed is a metal white board. Inside the storage area there is also a pegboard. The entire structure disassembles easily for shipping or storing. Does not take up much space at all. 3 feet tall folded up and 11 inches at its widest point.
