Vintage Mid-Century Modern ATOMIC UFO SAUCER Desk TASK Lamp INDUSTRIAL TOLEWARE
Up for auction is this fabulous Mid-Century Modern Atomic UFO Flying Saucer shaped desk/task lamp being offered"as is as found" it is in need of some restoration- paintwise- there are some scratches and wear to the shade and the body. The brass could also use a good polishing- there are no holes or significant dents anywhere. Works, however, the cord is quite brittle and there is a crack and tape in one spot- should really be rewired. Displays superb lines. The base is very heavy- seems almost weighted. Green in color with a white underside to the shade. The shade, the piece surrounding the bulp and middle area are a light weight silver metal(visible only because of the scratches) guessing either aluminum or steel. The bottom half including the base is brass. There is no maker's mark, though it is marked on the bottom under ... moresome old green felt- 3 and- F on the on/off switch. Original old cord still attached. Lamp stands about 17 inches high, the base is 5 1/2 inches in diameter and the shade is 13 inches in diameter across the bottom. This is a very fine antique American carved oak desk. It is large and very substantial with a new set in felt top framed by oak. The drawers are carved. Dovetailed and retain the original brass knobs. It has fancy carved corners and panels framed by decorative moldings all around. The doors have nicely carved raised panels and decorative moldings. Art Deco Brass and Wood Box This is a vintage brass and wood box with Art Deco detail. I'm not sure of the original purpose but it could be used as a lap desk or for storage. This box has a double hinged overlapping brass top and a green wood bottom. The wood inside the box is burgandy in color. The outside wood is painted a metallic green color. The corners of the box are nicely joined. The box is 14.5" by 9.5" by 3.5" It weighs two pounds and 10.3 ounces. There is no makers mark. The brass shows signs of age and wear. The brass has no dents. I have not tried to clean the brass. The inside wood is clean with no scratches. The hinged brass panels open and close easily. They are easy to remove and put back on. RARE SOLID COROMANDEL PEN & INK DESK STAND/CADDY,CARVED ELEPHANTS, c.1880
Offered here is a rare and unique item. Indeed. You may have seen the Anglo-Indian solid coromandel work boxes which appear on Ebay from time to time, often priced from $3000-$4000. This is from the same period, c1880, the British Empire period in India. Of SOLID COROMANDEL, this DESK CADDY/PEN-AND-INK STAND, is likewise done with the same style of rippled sides. It has a front drawer with ebony escutcheon and brass lock. Inside the drawer are found faux ivory straight edges. On the top of the piece, in the center, is a CARVED ELEPHANT on the top of a hinged storage box. That small box has an ebony escutcheon. To either side are the turned inkwells and in front and in back of the box are pen trays. To either side of the center box are two vertical(diagonal) notched pieces which comprise the dip pen rest for multiple pens. There are also four ... moresmaller sections with lids. As you can see in the next to last picture, all of these elements disassemble. You can remove the pen rests without appearing to have lost anything since they fit in two small barely visible notches. Each side of the piece is cut at the bottom in a fine decorative pattern. The grain is spectacular. Not only does it display wonderfully, it can be actually used to store pens, supplies, etc. A fine example of the Anglo-Indian Empire period. WIDTH 33 cm; DEPTH 23 cm. In all my years trading on Ebay. I've never come across this time of desk item. Really fabulous! Therefore, I've listed it at a very modest price given that the solid coromandel boxes of this style sell between $750 and $2000 on Ebay. RARE ORCHID COLORED STROMBERG CARLSON MODEL 1212 "FATBOY" DESK PHONE
Up for auction is an extremely rare Stromberg Carlson model 1212"Fatboy" desk set in orchid. This is an actual SC model 1212 in the rare color of orchid. Not painted. You can see by looking at my photo of the inside of the phone the staining that was all over the other side of the phone. After much sanding to remove the deep stains I literally used half of a large brick of buffing rouge to bring back the original color and surface. The handset has been painted to match the body. I also applied a coat of clear semi-gloss urethane over the paint. When I received the 1212 it was terribly stained and had shrunken in size considerably. The bottom cover holding the ringer and condenser no longer fit inside the body as it is supposed to do. In order to get the bottom to fit in to the body I had to grind off the side wall of the metal bottom. ... moreI used a reproduction rubber gasket to place around the bottom. Once I had placed the rubber gasket around the bottom and screwed it closed tight I noticed that there was a slight gap between the end of the body and the bottom cover. To compensate for this gap I placed an old handset cord within the gasket. In looking at the phone you would never notice that anything had been done to it other than the restoration. You can see this in the picture with the two SC 1212's side by side. With all of that said this is a very nice example of this rare phone. The color is stunning. Especially the perch and plunger. It is completely free of any stains, nicks or scratches and would make a wonderful addition to your collection. In 25 + years of collecting and restoration work this is the first orchid 1212 that I have had or even seen. It is a very rare phone and 100% original so don't let this one get away. Be sure to have a look at our other items! I acquired this clock sometime back and was curious to see if this is a genuine Oswald clock after seeing the mostly intact label underneath. I took the back off and sure enough. It's embossed with the name, J Oswald, Germany" making it a genuine clock produced in the city of Freiburg, just west of the Black Forest. I even saw relatively fresh oil on the movement lending me to believe it was serviced recently.runs well and keeps good time so I suspect it was. This is a well made, carved wooden clock that is in the shape of a dog; Pekingnese or Pug? It ... moreis beautifully and meticulously detailed but what's really cool are the eyes.the one on the left marks the hours and the one on the right measures the minutes. Their eyes revolve to the current time as time ticks away; fascinating! The back of the case has a metal plate covering the key wind, mechanical movement. All hardware is present including the time setting knob and winding key; lasts for several days on a single wind. There is a slow/fast adjustment too in case the clock timing ever needs to be sped up or slowed down as you wish. The clock works and keeps good time too but being an antique clock and we don't know the service history, some adjustments or service may be necessary once the clock arrives at its new home. We often advise our clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preserve a classic clock like this one and keep it healthy for years to come. I've looked the clock over fairly well and can't find any damage save a small nick here and there; nothing detracting, nothing could! It is a very impressive, highly collectible clock and the ideal size for any desk or vanity measuring about
