Steelcase Soft Seating - Platner Designed 70's Sofa Set
The Steelcase Soft Seating line was designed by Warren Platner in the early 70's and manufacturing began in 1974 by Steelcase Inc. after his work with Knoll. The Soft Seating line is made of fiberglass shells over clear Lucite bases and finished with leather upholstery. The idea behind the line is that the seating would appear to be floating above the surface on which it sits. Giving it a light, comfortable feel in contrast to its rigid fiberglass casings. Although the appearance of the set gives the impression of being quite stiff or rigid, it is actually one of the most comfortable seats you may ever have the pleasure of sitting on. Both the side chairs as well as the sofa provide the utmost comfort while maintaining the bold, simplistic attributes of modernism. This specific set was manufactured in 1975. The last year of its two year ... moreproduction run, as indicated by the tags throughout the pieces. Each piece has its own label which indicates the model number, year of manufacture, as well as the operator who built the piece and a key indicating the various models and patents. The set up for auction contains everything pictured. The large sofa, two side chairs, and the two side tables including the mirrors. In total it is the full 5-piece suite. Within the suite. Each of the pieces has small, minor chips and scrapes throughout. The back of the sofa is the only area with widespread scratches or scuffs. These flaws were already prevalent when I received the pieces; it seems as if the sofa was against a white wall sometime within its life(these blemishes can be seen in one of the posted photos above) The Lucite/Perspex bases are all in wonderful condition, there are no major scratches or any cracks whatsoever. The leather is in good used condition, there are no rips nor are there any tears, just normal wear on the edges over the years. The leather has been cleaned but could use a conditioning if desired. The set has not been refurbished or refinished in any manner. It is all original including the hardware. All

1940's Steelcase Metal Office Furnitue Co. Adjustable Office/Drafting Chair
This old Steelcase task/office/drafting chair is in fansastic condition. As the original vinyl( is in near mint condition and the brown paint paint looks so sharp on most of the chair. There is some wear to the paint in some areas, mostlu on top of the bent legs, but also a little on the backrest and the backrest frame(see pic's) There had been some tape on the backrest which has been removed, but the mastic is still there and could be removed(I was unsure what to use) The original casters have a stamp on them saying they were patended 9/42 and they appear to be made of stainless steel, although there is some pitting and surface rust(pic's) It looks like there are 3 spotw where the vinyl has been riveted to the metal seat base plate.
