Antique Mahogany Table Top Writing/Slope Lap Desk Mid 1800's Large With Key
This beautiful mahogany sloped lap desk was purchased at an estate sale recently. It has been dated back to mid 19th century. When opened. It features 3- bird's eye maple veneered drawers. The middle drawer is actually a false face. With a hidden drawer behind it that slides out to the side. It does come with a workable key, and the lock appears to be the right period. However, I am not completely sure. As I stated in description. It looks to have been restored at one time. It is fairly large, measuring 21" L x 19" W x 11" H, and weighs about 17 lbs. Up for bids is this Antique 19thC American Folk Art Dovetailed& Painted Book Form Box Lap Desk. This piece was made during the mid to late 19thC most likely in New England or New York. This is a lap desk which is in the form of a large book. The lap desk has it's original brown paint which has gold borders and sides. The paint has minimal wear. The sides of the box have exposed dovetailing. The box is missing the 2 inserts that you would write on. There are a few minor cracks to the 2 sides and one to the top edge by the spine. This piece measures 14 1/4" in width. 10" in depth, and stands 3 3/4" in height. 19th CENTURY ENGLISH MAHOGANY& BRASS FOLDING LAP DESK WRITING SLOPE BOX Description: Antique English Folding Lap Writing Desk(Slope) Dates c.19 th C. Made of Mahogany. This Slope has Brass corners, top and bottom and also brass braces midway down to secure it properly, so the box is in very sound condition. The hinges and lock are also brass(have no key) There is also a shaped brass plate on the top with engraved initials–looks like an‘AT’ Inside opens up to reveal the leatherette writing space, there is also a place for inkwells and a curved compartment for pens. The bottom compartment opens up to reveal an open compartment but it has 2 small draws that fit underneath the pens compartment and are somewhat secret. The top compartment has no fittings but has beautiful grained mahogany- see photos. Size: outside box measurements 13 ¾” ... morex 9 ½” and 5“ h. Condition: It is original antique condition. The brass is left as is unpolished. There are scratches some fairly deep, mostly on the lid. Also inside there is a devise which is to spring up the top, but does not seems to work and it has been opened by pulling up on the wood, and on the right corner it has caused an area where the veneer is starting to pull away from the base. All are relatively easy problems to fix. This is a Slope for someone looking for a box in original condition. It is price according to its condition. This is an Antique ca.1827 Georgian Mahogany Officer`s Travel Lap Desk. Sometimes called a Gentlemen`s Lap Desk. It is quite large measuring 22"x 11"x 8.5"closed, 22"x 22.5"open and weighs 17 lbs. When you raise the small partition to the right of the center compartment there is a secret space where a written dated note was found. All of the brass hardware is original. The key has been lost. It has a dovetailed full length drawer. The inside Writing Surface is dark brown Leather with gold stamped embossing. It has two inkwells. The bottom is covered with dark green felt. Antique Roll Top Desk. Circa 1920. Condition is excellent. It has a few areas that need some attention. We would use furniture polish but it probably needs a proper cleaning to wake up the wood. There are a few specks of paint on the right side. Again with a proper cleaning this can address this. The Only major defect is small burn mark on desk portion. I took many photos so what you see it what the desk has. There are 2 drawers on the shelf that were added and not part of the desk. That is why they don't match. It has been displayed in each of our homes for over 50 years. It was always stored on the main floor. Never in the basement or garage. It was cleaned and polished on a fairly regular basis. It has not dried out. We have been using it over the last few years as a computer desk. The second photo was taken by me of is of the original ... moreowner in 1959. Selling this wood secretary desk. This was made by the Rockford Chair and Furniture Co. Rockford ILL. I am not 100% certain, but the research I've done makes me believe it was made between 1920 and 1930, but I could be wrong. This desk measures about 32 1/4" wide by 40" tall. Measures about 17 1/2" deep when closed and 29 1/2" when opened. Has various signs of age/use. Such as light scratches, a chip out of the front foot and some rough marks in the one drawer. A walnut veneered desk in the style of Louis XVI. Circa 1920, having a shaped top, the surface of which is veneered in a herringbone pattern and trimmed with a machine carved decorative edge. There is a long center drawer over a knee hole space. Flanked by 2 small drawers. The drawers. Edges of the lower part of the desk and the sides, the knees on the legs. All have applied machine made decoration in the Louis XVI style, and the hardware on the drawers is in the same style. The desk is raised on cabriole legs tenninating in paw feet. Wear to the finish. Here is a very pretty Small Carriage Desk Clock by Waterford in their Abbey Pattern. It features 2 fan cuts and a small diamond hatch cut just below the clock and a large upside down fan cut on the back the sides and top have 3 long leaf cuts. It's 4" wide by 3 3/8" tall and 1" deep. On the bottom it has the Waterford Seahorse Hallmark and Ireland etched below. This comes with both the older Waterford info booklet. The Time Pieces booklet and the tags which show the number 503.316.0032. There is also the grey felt bag and dark grey box. The clock is in excellent condition with no marks. For Sale: Antique Western Electric desk fan. It has 8" brass pizza shaped blades that do look like they may be bent some. Please see pictures. On the back of the motor it has a neat W cast on it. The tag which is brass says Western Electric, Alternating Current Fan Motor, 100-120 Volts, 60 Cycles, Style No W-178695B(Not sure on the B) Serial No 804625(pretty sure on the 2 but hard to tell) Then in tiny letters on the next line it says Manufactured by Owner of Patents for Western Electric Company. Then in even smaller letters it says 2786(11-12-14) Patented Oct 5'06, June 29'09, July 20'09, Sept 9'10, Feb 27'12, July 9'12, Oct 1'12, Mar 31'14. I may be wrong on a few dates, they are very hard to read. The blades turn when pushed but not freely. The switch in the base turns back and forth freely. The back ... moreof the blades have some tarnish, please see pictures. The edge of one blade is a little rough, like it is chipped. I do not see anyway of removing the blade as it appears to be attached with a type of pin that does not go all the way through. As this is the case, this fan will be shipped with the fan attached. Vintage copper on wood desk plaque Bookend Wagon Desert Chico
Desk plaque or bookend done in hammered copper and attached to wooden backs. The wood backs also have lines carved into them that cross at each corner for added decoration. There is a wagon being pulled by horses past cactus. Also on this bookend is a name pressed into the lower right corner of the copper that looks like it reads'Chico' The hammered copper pieces are attached to the wood with small copper nails. copper panel is in excellent condition. The wood backs are also in great condition The metal foot has old red felt attached. It measures 4 1/4" tall by 5 1/4" wide and are each 4 1/4" deep.
