Antique 1888 Oak Chair Frame Base Tilts/Swivels/Rolls/Height Adjusts Office/Desk
Patent dates of 1887 and 1888. 2 of the rollers don't exactly match. they are the same diameter but not quite as wide. They all swivel and rolls good but you'll want to oil them a little before you reinsert them into the frame. Working height of about 15" to 20" before it starts to get a little wobbly. Base is 19 1/2" across the closest points-26 3/4" diameter. The part that you bolt your chair to is 17 1/2" long by 8" wide. Bolt holes are 16 1/16" x 6 3/4" center to center. You can bolt pretty much any chair you want to to it. If yours have legs you can remove them. You'll want a fairly thick bottom chair and if yours is thin you'll want to reinforce it with a thicker piece of wood then screw it fast to this frame. Several minor drying cracks that go nowhere. Handmade Custom Craftsman Fred Blechschmidt Solid Wood Office Swivel Desk Chair
I am offering this signed Craftsman style solid wood executive custom made swivel desk chair. The signature on the bottom reads"Handcrafted by Fred Blechschmidt" There is also an incised number on the bottom that reads"82 618" The total height of the chair is about 40 inches. The seat is 21 7/8 inches wide in the front and about 20 1/2 inches deep. The height from the floor to the top of the seat is about 17 inches. I'm not sure if the height of the seat is adjustable or not. I have included a picture of the swivel mechanism for your inspection- maybe you can tell. There is a a piece that looks like it might turn but I wasn't able to move it. I'm not certain what type of hardwood was used and if it is all the same type or not. I think it looks like some type of walnut or cherry- possibly black walnut or brazilian ... morecherry. Whatever the type. It is gorgeous and has beautiful grain. As you can see in my pictures, there are many lovely details on this chair including some marquetry accenting along the top. Regarding the condition, there is some wear to the finish and light scratches here and there- mainly where you would expect it on the top of the arm rests. There is a small scrape on the back top edge(see pictures) Overall, it looks wonderful. I do not know anything for certain about the artist woodcrafter who made this chair. There was a person by that name that lived in the Amana, Iowa area and I suspect is might have been him. That person passed on in 1987. My guess is that the chair might have beeen made c1970's-1980's. Here is a fine, heirloom quality chair- a great piece for home or office. Vintage Art Metal Aluminum Industrial Office/Desk/Task Chair Mid-Century Modern
Signed Art Metal Co Jamestown NY. The padding under the seat is aged and turns to dust when you set in it and falls out. It sets ok for now but won't in the future. Upholstery is original and looks decent. Arm rests have some digs and scuffs on them. The chair rolls. Swivels, height adjusts on the seat, height adjusts on the back rest and it also swivels some and the tilt angle adjusts and is spring loaded. As you see it in the pictures the seat height is 19 1/2" with an arm height of 29" at that setting. Seat may adjusted in height from 17" to 20" Seat is 18" wide between the arms by 15 1/2" deep. Arms are 23 3/4" at the widest part which is towards the front. I am removing the arms and back for shipping. The arms reattach with 2 bolts each as does the back rest. The back rest assembly attaches wirth ... moreone bolt. I put the bolts back where they came from so that you know which is which. Propeller base and chair frame are aluminum. Seat mounting assembly is steel for strength. It could use cleaned up some. Elvis and Bing Crosby were singing to the American people and Hamilton Cosco was turning out this iconic desk chair on August 19. 1957. The date is stamped on the underside of this steel gray chair with Kelly green upholstery in near mint condition. The rails behind the backrest and on top of the footrests have paint loss due to rubbing over the years. This style chair was hugely popular in offices throughout America, but most of them were discarded or destroyed. This one survived beautifully and is ready to continue on. The seat measures a cushy. I have two of these and this is the nicer one. I have owned it for years. All the buttons are on it. It has some soiling but it has no tears and everything on it works. It rolls.
