This is a vintage. Authentic herman miller softpad management aluminum group chair designed by Charles and Ray Eames, and featured in time life magazine. The chair is a classic. Though it does have a few condition issues. There are some scuffs and scratches on the arms, and small tears on some of the edges of the fabric. The upholstery is faded over time, and the foam is breaking down. It's easy to replace, and actually has a zipper to open it up and restuff the upholstery, so it's a simple enough maintenance issue. The base itself is in working condition. However, the knob to turn for raising and lowering the chair height adjustment has been mishandled at some point, and now the edges are sharp, so gloves may be necessary to adjust it. Once height is set, it's great, but it's by no means in mint condition. Also, if the chair ... moreis lifted upwards,it will slide off the base. Overall. It needs some TLC and restoration, but it is an all time mid century modern design classic, and with the proper care, will look great and provide a comfortable desk chair for many years to come. Authentic Herman Miller Eames Aluminum Group super low lounge Shell Chair Base
Up for grabs is a Herman Miller aluminum group low lounge chair base for shell chairs. This is a very low height versions. I had it on my zenith armshell before i put the original solid rod x-base back on it. It is in overall excellent vintage condition. Some wear to the bottom of the original plastic feet. it still has a nice shine to it but there is some tarnishing. This base came out of a local college. The height of this base is very low and and has a wider stance than the standard height. I have only seen 2 other bases with the same height. NOTE: When i acquired this base. One of the back tabs on the spider mount had broken off. Instead of having it TIG welded back on, i cannibalized another aluminum group desk base for the spider mount. The difference is that the desk base has a thinner steel rod(1/2in) so a 1in steel sleeve was milled ... moreon a metal lathe and friction fitted on the the 1/2in rod. This is the narrower base. Base has original shock mounts and original screws, which I have not tightened back down for fear of stripping or cross threading. In GREAT condition. Will need to be repainted due to surface rusting and a paint splotch. No broken welds& no pieces broken. This is the real deal. 1953 Calico Ash DCM with black metal legs. Gorgeous. Iconic piece of mid-century design. Second-generation Charles Eames designed; manufactured by Herman Miller. Signed with carved"DCM" and date-stamped 1953. Also includes foil patent label. This chair is in terrific vintage condition. It has not been abused. And it has not been messed with or modified. It does need new feet/glides, which are available for $20 online. There are a few minor scratches to the seat and back, and some minor rust/marks on legs. Overall in great condition. HISTORY: Up for auction is a vintage Eames Herman Miller DSX( D ining or desk height) side chair with molded fiberglass shell in red orange color and zinc plated" H" base from the early 60's. The chair was designed by Charles Eames and manufactured by the Herman Miller Furniture Company. The chair has many authentic markings including a rare silver Herman Miller medallion and Z(for Zenith Plastics) The shell rests on an zinc plated"wall protective" 4 legged" H" base complete with 4 original white self-leveling plastic glides. The base extends further out in the rear so the shell edge does not rub the wall. The chair is known for it's comfort and durability. The shell is produced from fiberglass-reinforced plastic. Originally. The fiberglass was being used during the war to reinforce plastic on airplane ... moreradar domes. In according to the Eames fiberglass contract shell colors catalogue, this color was specified as RO(Red Orange) The fiberglass shell has the narrow shock mounts configuration. This very 60's color is one of the most desirable and popular colors of the Eames fiberglass shells. CONDITION REPORT: This chair is in very good for its age vintage condition. The shell is clean. Displays fiber very nicely and still retains it's original gleaming luster. The color is vivid and bright with no fading. Some very min. wear to the edge and surface of the shell(scratching, small nicks) Nothing major but we have to mention this for the accuracy of the description. Looks very nice! The original gel coating is intact. The small shock mounts are in good original condition with no"bleeding" and have NOT been re-glued.
