You cannot find this company's lights in the U.S. It is stamped on the bottom with the HoNSEL logo and name(see photo) Original lamps go for thousands of dollars at the BIG auction's house(you know which one! The wiring may have been replaced but that is also vintage as you can see from the pictures. The tree shaped base is cast metal- very heavy, maybe bronze? Bronze colored, for sure. Hendrikk Hérens was born on December 4. 1893 in Amsterdam. He took a course in drawing at the Academy of Art in The Hague and then was an assistant to the restoration of the stained glass windows of St. John's Church in Gouda. In 1919 he started his own studio in Honselersdijk(Netherlands) where he made stained and leaded-glass windows. The workshop was called The Honsel. And later The New Honsel. His first lamps were faithful decorations. But gradually he went on to the expressionist Amsterdam School style. He designed lamps for major clients such as De Bijenkorf and cinema Tuschinsky. 1] He also made for individuals lamps in the Tuschinsky style. This lamp is circa 1930s1940s and has a thick square plug-see pic provided. the double-arm frame is nice with Industrial Machine-age Steampunk sockets marked"Leviton" and sockets holders with circles in them-the socket metal holders have the three original screws in each which are used to hold the shades in place(see close-up pics provided) This is a sort of factory office desk lamp as it has a platform for notepad. Pen, and paper-etc. to be placed on(see pics) with original green felt on it-the felt could be replaced by buyer to freshen up the platform/lamp with a nice navy blue felt pad-it would look lovely-I have left it as it is in original undisturbed condition for the integrity ... moreof the piece so you see that the felt is worn and aged and dusty but is very easy to place a new piece of felt of your choosing(see pics of this feature) The switch to the lamp is located on the front of the platform/base-it is slightly askew and turns on and off well, I have not tried to straighten it. The lamp has been thoroughly cleaned and newly electrified with new wiring and a new light bulb holder. Also the lamp base enables it to be attached on a wall. For sale is a beautiful documented Handel lily lamp as shown in pictures 1-12. This lamp is relatively rare in that its glass color is not Handel's standard dark green. Rather. It is a lighter striated yellow green. Also the base metal and the metal holding the petals has a lighter golden brown patina that is more in keeping with the muted colors of the glass. The true patina color is shown in natural sun light in photo 3. The true color of the glass is shown in natural light in photos 2& 3. Although the base and shade are unsigned. This lighter colored variation of Handel's lily lamp is pictured(documented) in"The Handel Lamp Book" by Hibel. Hibel& Fontaine at page 30 at the top right. Hence, most of these lily pad bottoms had weak lettering(a couple of letters) to no impressions at all. The lamp has been rewired with a period appropriate brown cloth cord that has been spliced at the bottom. See photos 9& 10. The lamp has its original bakelight plug. photo 8) The socket has a GE paddle. Photo 12. The socket works perfectly. The socket shell is spot welded closed at two spots. You can see one of them in photo 2. The shade is 4 inches long from back to front tip(i.e. The front to back diameter) The shade's side to side diameter is 4 1/2 inches wide. The shades front opening is 2 1/4 inches in diameter. It takes one of the narrow pointed bulbs. Unfortunately. The lamp has one panel of glass missing. Fortunately, it is in the least conspicuous spot. The underside. The framing for the petal is still intact. The missing piece can only be noticed by viewing the lamp from the back side(photo 11) or from the underside(photo 12) Because of Handel's overlapping petal pattern, the loss is barely noticable. Made of walnut and burled walnut veneer, the desk has 3 drawers in the lower section, the middle section is a drop front desk with pigeon holes and leather work space, the upper section has leaded glass doors and adjustable shelves. Measures 71- 1/4" tall(almost 6 feet) x 29- 1/2" wide; the lower section is 16" deep, the upper is 7- 3/4" deep. Condition is excellent as shown in the photos. 1800 curved glass bookcase / inlaid marketry drop front secretary desk unusual
hello. i have a nice old antique drop front secretary. the wood would seem to be mahogany. And some mahogany veneer. marketry front from an estate sale. Just down the road, i will tell you all that i know about it. a bit of damage. But it appears to have it all. and the damage is all minor) nice beveled mirror& shelf. a lead glass top section( missing an inside shelf) a curved glass door on the left( bookshelf) side. the glass is wavy and i am certain it is original. a drop front secretary( a bit of veneer loss on the surface) but look at the inlay in the center. original pigeon holes inside of the desk( one drawer is missing a tiny brass knob inside) the drawer directly beneath the desk is burl wood and it has a serpentine( curved) front. the other 3 drawers. 2 bottom and the small one over the desk are flat front) i do not have a 2 ... moredollar key that fits. also 2 of the original locks are missing the bookcase shelves are curved front. But i think perhaps the pulls are not original. a spot of white paint on the frame of the door is easily removed. and 2 bits of veneer to replace on the desk front. it had casters on the bottom, but they are no longer with this piece of furniture. it is easy to find 4 more. i have not cleaned the dust off this unusual piece. i just got it yesterday. it would seem to have the original finish and save for the pulls( and they may be original as well. it is exactly as it was made. perhaps victorian. This is an antique Table/Desk Lamp. It stands about 15 inches tall when assembled. The shade is about 6 inches in diameter and about 6 inches in height. The base is painted metal with a lined design. The shade is made of frosted glass with a floral pattern. The base color is white with a mild blue accent There is no electrical component installed but one can easily be added. The lamp is in very good condition for its age. The base has some chipped and scratched paint which can be touched up. The shade is in excellent condition. There are no chips or cracks. Pieces like these are extremely hard to find and this size. This Victorian Eastlake piece is completely original, from a Hudson Valley Estate. The top features a two-door cabinet for transferware dishes, or could be used in a library for books. The glass is original wavy glass used from that time period. There are two adjustable shelves. The middle features a drop down desk complete with lock and key, original letter and paper slots, two drawers with milk glass knobs. The bottom features three drawers with original locks. Antique carved walnut escutcheon keyhole covers and stamped brass and ebonized wood teardrop finial handles. The piece is made from both American Chestnut ... moreand black walnut, with carving, rosettes, and gingerbread trim at the top. American Chestnut pieces are extremely rare to find today. A blight hit the chestnut trees around 1908 and wiped out the American Chestnut. Thus making it rare and valuable. Comes apart in two pieces for transport and setup. Ready to use in your library. Dining room, parlor or dressing room. The condition is good. Nicks here and there as expected with age. The desk front appears to have been repaired at one point, sturdy and works fine. Buffalo NY Manufactured from 1890-1915 Clean Inside and Out/ Well Preserved Antique- Local Pick-up Only ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ We are offering one Antique Larkin Desk. Purchased in the 1980's at a nearby Antique and Collectible show. The Larkin Desk has seen only light use as its tall attractive form stood decorating a wall over the past many years. Larkin Desks were made from around 1890 until 1915. They came in many different styles from most basic to ornate. This one offers many fine features. Has a beveled mirror top center and two small corner pedestal candle shelves either side. Embossed scrollwork adorns rounded top. Scrollwork embellishment on slant-top fold-up front of desk. Opens up flat supported by hinges either ... moreside. Desk organizing compartments inside includes small pull out drawer. Bookcase below offering two shelves for a home library. Glass doors open and close smoothly keeping books dust-free. A small lock on bottom shelf secures one of the doors. The other closes with little effort. As can be expected with most antiques. There are always a few issues from time and use. Items to note with this Larkin: there is gray spotting on the beveled mirror. Also, the pull knob on front of desk is loose and interior lock is missing. Left side hinge is replacement, not original, and two small dividers missing from inside compartments. Also has a very minor cosmetic corner repair located right side mid-section, see pics. Desk is of a nice weight. Made of oak, stained a toasty warm medium brown. Stands just over 60" tall by 30" wide by 11" deep. The Slant-top measures about 15 3/4" when opened. A true heirloom piece with a great history, fine Americana for your home. This small, heavy(1-3/4 lb. fully and beautifully cut crystal frame with an inset Mercedes clock(no alarm) is in excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks, scratches, bruising, fogging, or any other flaws in the glass. The minute detail on the flower and the leaves is perfect. Unfortunately, I could not find a makers mark anywhere. It is possibly a Waterford piece that lost its' sticker, but there is no way for me to tell. The clock is marked'Mercedes, Made in Germany' and it is also in excellent condition. There are no marks or discoloration on the dial, the cover glass is clear and free of scratches, and the brass bezel is bright. The elongated winding ... moreand setting stems work fine, and the clock runs well and keeps good time. The clock stands 5-1/2" tall, on a 3" x 4" base, and the face is 2-1/2" across the bezel. I will not close my auctions early, or change to'buy it now' so please don't ask. Please email for more pics or information. I offer a full refund if not satisfied. Antique Victorian / Edwardian Wood & Brass Desk Set with Glass Inkwells England
This is an Antique Victorian/ Edwardian Wood& Brass Desk Set with Beveled Glass Inkwells. The alms box was purchased in England and we assume it was probably made there. We do not know its age specifically but we were told it was Victorian or Edwardian and that appears to be correct. The wood definitely appears to hardwood. Possibly oak. The base measure 9 3/4" x 5 1/4" x 5/8" high. There is a cylindrical tray near the front for pens. Then base is nicely finished with a nice patina of age. Each inkwell is 2 1/2" square and 1 7/8" tall. All 12 edges are beveled. Enhancing their appearance. The center of the base has a solid brass handle with a shape similar to a nautical cleat, for easy lifting and moving the set on a desk top. Condition The set is overall in very nice condition. Especially considering its age, ... morebut I did find the following issues to note: One of the inkwells has two small. Narrow chips on the top edge of the bevel, 1/8" near a corner, and 1/16" further along the same edge as seen marked with two arrows. Please bear in mind that this is a closeup, more than two times actual size. These chips are not overly noticeable, and would not be seen at all if turned to the back There are some ink stains in the bottom of the depressions for the inkwells. Black ink in the left one and red ink in the right as seen in one of the photos. The desk set is offered as found/ as seen/ as described.
