Antique Roll Top Quarter-sawn desk in oak--early 1900s and chair
This is a beautiful S-curve roll top desk in very good condition. We have owned this desk for 35 years. But the prior owner found an envelope inside the desk dated 1905. It is crafted all around so does not have to be placed against a wall. The drawers have dovetail joints-a few of the joints are loose, but drawers work fine. There are 3 locks-one on the roll-top, one on the side or end of the desk, and one on the right-hand door and we have all keys and the locks work perfectly. The top rolls up and down very smoothly. I do not know who made the desk. The oak chair did not come with it, but matches nicely. 2 of the back slats are broken but the swivel and wheels are very sturdy and work great. Chair is free. With a seat height of about 19.5" On the bottom it is marked"KS MADE IN DENMARK. I believe the designer is Kai Kristiansen. The chair is very comfortable and lightweight- about 18 lbs. It is in good condition with no obvious damage. Industrial childrens public school desk chair vintage free pick up NY
Very cool little chair! As you can see from the last picture. It isn't that tiny, I can sit in it pretty comfortably, and it's definitely sturdy enough to hold me or someone even heavier. It has great school or wagon red paint that's chipping off, if you're going for a vintage or industrial look, I think it really adds to it. It also has this subtle curve to the back, so postmodern cool. There is a small piece of duct tape on the front, its only there to keep from getting splinters if you sit down in shorts, it can easily be taken off and some elmers glue would fix the rough spot. Back when furniture was made to last. This chair seems to have had quite a busy life. So much so that the caned seat wore out. It has been recaned and has a wonderful patina that has been preserved and not refinished. This chair is extremely comfortable and solid. The recaned seat will last for years to come. Derby. Knowlton and Co. was established in Gardner in 1863. Several years later, Mr. Derby bought out his business partners. In 1880 he established P. Derby& Co. By 1897 P. Derby& Co. was listed as the second-largest chair manufacturer in the country. It had branches in Boston, New York and Chicago. The company specialized in cane furniture, but also made traditional wooden tables and chairs. It went out of business in 1935. This chair still has the label on the underside of the seat. The desk is comprised of 4 sections: base. Top, cubbies and rolltop. There are some stains and scratches, but the desk is in incredible shape for its age. There are some pieces of veneer missing, but we have some of them. Two brass foot casings are missing in back, but we do have one of those, also. The desk has pullout panels left and right. The gorgeous cubby section has 6 drawers that are finished on top, also(see photo) It has a small door for which we do not have the key. All ... moreof the pulls, and the foot casings, are brass. Arts & Crafts Mission Oak 1915 Antique Teacher Desk with leather top and chair
Up for sale is a Beautiful Quarter Sawn Oak Teachers Desk and Chair. This is a nice solid piece. The desk measures approx. 61 inches wide. 33 inches deep and 30 3/4 inches high. The top of the desk is leather but is in a very used condition. There are 3 small draws on the left side, 1 small and 1 large draw on the right side, a middle draw and 2 pull out writing trays. This desk come the original quarter sawn oak chair on rollers. The base has had some repair(see last picture) but is very solid. Very nice piece. NO RESERVE
