ANTIQUE 1/4 HP CENTURY ELECTRIC MOTOR ~ RUNS PAT 1914-15,1750 RPM,VTG LATHE TOOL
Offered is a 1/4 hp repulsion-start and induction-run electric motor made by Century Electric of St Louis. Missouri. The brass ID plate has two patent dates, in 1914 and 1915. The plate indicates that this motor will run on 110 or 220 volts, and that it runs at 1750 rpms. This is a very old motor. I don't know much more about it than what the plate indicates, nor it's exact age or application. The motor is about 12 inches in overall length and weighs about 45 pounds. It had a totally awful cord on it when I got it. I plugged it into an extension cord and then plugged that in. It ran just fine. smoothly with just a little occasional noise, as if some bit was rubbing at times. I then cut the cord off. The shaft has about 1/8 inch of endplay but does not wiggle. The shaft is served by two oils caps at each end. I just blew the loose ... morecrud off with compressed air. This motor would clean up really nice, but I will leave that project to the next owner. I cannot find any breaks or damage to the cast iron bells or base. No dents in case. The screws aren't marked up. The ID plate has a break in one corner near a rivet, but could be repaired. Little of the original black paint remains. It would not be unusual if this motor also needed some lubrication, maintenance or internal repairs. I am no expert but have read that these motors are reliable, simple, and easy to repair. Please look the pictures over closely. Winner pays for USPS Priority in the USA. Can go Standard Post if it is significantly cheaper to your location. This is a heavy item requiring extra care in packaging. THE BUFFER MOTOR, BUFFER WHEEL, THE BRUSH WHEEL, AND THE 1/8" DRILL BIT, ALL CAME TOGETHER, SO YOU WILL RECEIVE EVERYTHING YOU SEE IN THE PICTURES, WHICH ARE 4 ITEMS. THE BASE IS MADE OF CAST IRON. AND DOES HAVE A HOLE IN EACH END FOR MOUNTING THIS TO A WORKBENCH, OR TABLE, AND THE MOTOR IS SCREWED TO THE TOP OF THE HOUSING BASE WITH 2 SCREWS, SO IT WOULD BE NO PROBLEM TO TAKE THE MOTOR OFF AND USE IT FOR RUNNING SOMETHING ELSE IF YOU DESIRED. Vintage Small Electric Motor - Runs Great! Portable, Plugs In w/ 3 Size Pulleys
I was so happy when this was plugged in. I had to oil it. But it runs great! My dad used this on several different things, that's why it has different size pulleys on it and is so easy to move. No name, no info. He made the mount, bracket, brace- whatever you want to call it. Fits snug and it's not going anywhere. This has been tested and it runs. I didn't leave it plugged in for long and it didn't run very fast. It needs to be cleaned and oiled. It is dirty. This body style is close to the 1920's Westinghouse Kellogg electric motor. AC Motor Type SAII 1/4 HP 110V Cont. Amps 4.8 60 Cycles RPM 1740 Style ES 84637 Frame 645 Measures 11x7.5" Shaft is 1/2" This old Westinghouse has the base and motor in one piece. It is cast iron. Great look! The shaft turns easily. This a very neat old electric motor that runs very well. The pump part probably needs seals but you can feel it pump a little. There is no tags or plates to tell who made it. There is a casted number under the base it looks like. I would appreciate any information to figure out its manufacture and use. I was told it was thought to used in dentistry in 30s to 50s? I might have it priced a little high but its a lot easier to go down than up. Hoping to find manufacturer and purpose of it.
