Davco 234 Plus - Coolant Heated Fuel Filter - WVO, SVO, Biodiesel
Up for auction is a Davco 234 Plus fuel filter. I LOVE this filter! I used it on my school bus WVO conversion for less than 1.500 miles, but changed it out for a different filter because it was hard to change the filter where I had it mounted(underneath) It would be great in a location with top or side access. This filter is made for running waste vegetable oil and biodiesel. It has two coolant ports(1/4" NPT) on the bottom which allows the base to be heated by coolant from your engine. The IN and OUT fuel ports are 3/8" NPT. But can be removed to use ORB fittings. It also has a threaded port(plugged) that could be used to put in an optional 12v heater. Because of the design of this filter(air in the plastic bulb) It works awesome for looped return WVO systems because if you happen to have any air in the system, it will work itself ... moreout in the filter. Filter is in good shape with some normal wear and just a little grime. It should be good to go. Includes filter wrench. I've been running Jetta and Golf TDIs on WVO since 2006. After 8 years and 70.000 trouble free miles, my wife totalled her Jetta. I no longer have the enthusiasm to keep up with the project with just one car and so I'm selling the whole shebang. I already sold the Jetta kit. I collect the WVO and settle it in cubies. I pour it into the blue drum(see picture) through sock filters hanging in the top of the drum. Leaving the sediment in the cubie. The hot water heater element in the drum brings the oil up to 130°, thermostat keeps it at that temp for as long as you want. There is a stand pipe in the bottom of the drum to suck oil from above the bottom of the drum through ... morea Goldenrod Water Block filter and a Whole House water filter. It then pumps into the tanks seen on top of the racks. A hose running from the tanks gravity feeds for fill up in the garage. All valves, plumbing and temperature gauge are included. I have one extra Goldenrod filter and 9 sock filters. Switches and water pump are included. Marine grade 1" macerator oil pump with hose is included for collection. Two locking 55 gallon oil drum tops are included. The used Greasecar system I have consists of the tank that fits in the spare tire well(24" diameter) Heated fuel filter housing and head, switches, 2 solenoid valves, temp gauge, fuel gauge. Original Greasecar installation manual is included. Hoses for the Greasecar kit are not included. They are readily available and you'll need particular lengths for your car. I listed this as for parts/ not working however it is complete and it does work very well.but it is in pieces and I recommend whoever buys this to have someone who knows what they are doing install it or frustration could ensue. The car it came out of was a Volkswagen tdi that ran the system for roughly 60k miles.always with well filtered oil and properly purged. I no longer have time to source the oil so I removed the system. Used removed from working filling system. the pump is a bronze 1"NPT teel with no relief valve. the motor is a dayton 3/4 hp single phase. it is wired for 115v as is sits but does not have a cord or plug. the pump and motor are mounted on the aluminum channel as shown and we just cut it out of the frame is was welded to so the ends of the aluminum are sharp and jagged. READ: I really could not test the unit to pump fluids. but I did power it up for a short times and it runes smooth and quiet. I shined a flashlight at the gears and they are not all chewed up. MP3 aftermarket AM/FM CD with remote and aux input. Stock speakers are okay. Good tire tread. New brakes and rotors last year. 5 55 gallon plastic drums. Pump directly from storage at the restaurant into the van. Nice clean system. There is even an air pressure option to use for emptying the drums. Quick. Reliable, clean and discrete. There are two pumps installed. One is a high capacity. High cost pump used for starting the process. Very capable, but has a high draw on the batteries, and more over the inverter. The photo shows two inverters. Both are included. The one on the left is a Harbor Freight inverter that has been working like a champ until recently. I think it just got worn out. It still works but will no longer support the heavy draw of the stronger pump. The other inverter is being used now for start up and then I switch to the other pump which is very adequate and much quieter and efficient. Then I have a 3rd pump heavy duty pump I will include as an extra. The pumps work fine with line AC current but challenge the inverters. It was used by me and a partner in 2010-2011 using waste vegetable oil as a feedstock. If you're unfamiliar with this process. The byproduct is glycerin. Making biodiesel is easy, but getting the cost down when dealing with acidic feedstock is a greater technical challenge that is, in my opinion, well overcome with this system. Not all these tanks are necessary to make biodiesel, but batching such as I have allows for a continuous throughput, as having extra tanks allows staging incase secondary batching is required for very acidic feedstock, your fancy expensive all in one unit sellers won't volunteer this. This system has NOT been operated since 2011. But is awesome and produces ... morequality biodiesel at low cost. It has a 50 gallon hot water heater as a reactor for 100 liter batches of biodiesel. It also features a 150 gallon per hour waste vegetable centrifuge processor(pabioidiesel) that cleans(WVO filtering or WMO) via centrifuge filtering to below one-half micron while de-watering your oil.
