I have always thought that these lamps were for candles. But now that I have learned the term“Float Lamp” I realize that the cups were actually filled with oil with a wick and holde which would have floated on top. Both of the brass holders of this Victorian Float Lamp retain their original hand blown glass oil cups. As you can see in our photographs, this cast iron has acquired an old dark patina over the years and there is guaranteed to be no breaks, or any repairs. Victorian table lamp. it is made from very high end materials and extremely ornate. the base and shaft is made from a stunning solid/ cut green onyx stone which has wonderful greens and brown veining/ inclusions. it is footed with very ornate solid brass claw feet. and the top of the base also has extremely detailed victorian brass design. it has a ribbed nicely shaped green glass globe as the body of the lamp and topped with a very detailed cut out brass filigree finial. the shade base is also a rare piece and has an adjustment on the side to be able to raise and lower the shade. the light turns on and off with a wonderful victorian key style switch on the socket. the lamp works great and in good shape measures 35 1/4 x 6 3/8 inches. it is marked on the bottom of the lamp"BA" and some ... morenumbers very rare lamp. I have done my best to smooth it out, using 2000 grit paper, but I don't want to go to far! The best finish is using a non-toxic oil which will not go rancid(example olive oil WILL go rancid quickly) So I have choosen Mineral oil to refresh and refinish this nice item. I have applied 3 coats allowing proper drying time and buffed to a medium gloss between coates. Mineral Oil should be applied every month or so as needed. Trick: do not buy mineral oil from home store or refinishing shop, get it in your local ... moregrocery store, maybe 1 or 2 bucks, just ask the pharmacist. Antique 1878 Cast Iron Ship With Angel Picture Frame & Oil painting Of Baby
This is marked on the part that goes on the back of the beveled edge glass Pat April23 1878. The frame does have a repair that may have occurred at the factory? The chair that the angel was sitting in was broken off and soldiered back on. You cant hardly tell it from the front. The oil painting of the baby is not signed and was done on canvass. It looks to be from the 1870's or 1880's. It is 2 inches across. The frame is made of cast iron and is 9 inches tall and 7 inches wide. OLD antique vintage Fine Art OIL PAINTING original Arts and Crafts Picture frame
Up for auction here is a nice antique. Circa late 1890s to around late 19 teens arts and crafts era oil painting on canvas of a Rough Seas Seascape. The painting is being sold in a dark finished arts and crafts style oak frame which is probably original to the painting. The painting on its own measures 9 inches high by 16 inches across and with the frame 13 1/4 inches by 20 1/4 inches. There is no signature on the painting that we can see but there is an abnormal spot in the lower left that looks like it might have been a signature at one time but we are not sure. The stretcher bars are the old American or European style where they are square cut rather than the ones later cut at a 45 degree angle. As for condition. The painting is very very dark and need a good cleaning. There are about 9 tiny white paint spots or chips scattered on the ... moresurface. There are a couple of tiny paint crackle spots but the canvas is tight to the canvas. There is finish missing on the frame on three edges that will need to be touched up. The frame is damaged in the upper right on the silver painted wood liner, there is a one inch by 3/8ths of an inch chunk of wood missing. There is an old framer's label from Carson Pierre Scott on the back which has been closed for framing since about the 1950s and the label is much older than that. This smokeless heater is in vintage condition. And there is some surface rust from over the years. I love the look as is. However, from my reasearch I have seen these beautifully redone, but I thought it was best to let the restoration up to the new owner. It measures 23.5 inches tall x 16.75 inches at the furthest distance between the legs. The vents all seem to work well. And the heater opens and closes nicely. The oil tank is really cool as well, being made out of either brass or copper! It has a spring loaded valve that still works perfectly- and features a metal band around the middle of the jar that held the iron bail. Or handle. CONDITION is VERY GOOD- no cracks or damage to the glass- just wear from use( circa early 1900s) The bottom exhibits some stretched glass residue. A pontil mark, from when it was originally blown. These are NOT cracks, clearly they stand out in relief, little ridges that can be seen and detected with the fingernail. Rare Antique French Or Dutch Wall Mirror W Pastoral Oil Painting
Offering a magnificent and rare antique wall mirror. I think this style is called tabernacle: it's beautifully molded with old gilded embellishments and gilding throughout. The central piece is actually an oil on canvas and may predate the mirror by a large amount of time. It's a pastoral scene. Mountains, trees, a small manse with a tower and cows in the field. Quite a lovely painting with some warping, craquelure and a small chip(see photos) The front is painted an old creamy yellow(more ivory) The mirror looks original and remains in fine shape. The back isn't so pretty but is stable and has the benefit of a bit of beautiful deco paper remaining as a backing. Simple wire hanger. This mirror is made of very heavy wood which, together with the mirror, weighs a considerable amount. That and its general fragility make shipping ... morethis costly. IA. stamped inside a shield on the side. Some of the letters are not legible, but the stamping is definitely identifiable. Lamp stands 2 1/2" to the lid and it has a double spout or spout liner.
