VINTAGE KEROSENE HOLDER & HAND FORGED IRON FIRE STARTER ROD, BRASS / IRON, VG.
This antique brass kerosene holder& rod tool was used to start the fireplace years ago. The container was filled with kerosene or oil and the rod. Which contained a porous pumice stone on the end, absorbed the kerosene. The rod end was then placed among the wood and lit. It burned for a while enabling the fire to catch onto the logs. The holder has a handle and hinged lid with a slot for the rod to fit with the lid closed. There is a hole/slot on the handle to hang the holder. The fire lighting rod tool handle is made of hand forged iron and has a large absorbent pumice stone on the end. The holder measures 6 1/2" high X 4 1/2" wide including the handle and the iron/ pumice rod is 12" long. A nice hearthside collectible. Vintage Perko Ships Lanterns w/ Kerosene Lamps, 18" Tall
Great old pair of ships lanterns with oil lamp burners inside and heavy glass globes. They are 18" high. 22" high with the handles and 10" across the back. One of the globes has a couple chips on the ridges on one side and seems to have a fracture in the glass near it's top ridges. I have tried to take a photo of it. It's not too obvious looking at it. The oil lamps are marked P& A Mfg Co. Waterbury, Conn. The lamps burners are a bit different, one is larger than the other, the bases are the same. Both of the chimneys are old, one is marked Perko. One is in really good condition, the other has some slight surface rust. Lots of photos follow. These are really heavy and I think will have to be shipped seperately. Here is a nice recycled vintage Perfection kerosene heater that I have transformed in to a cute lamp stand. I have removed the fuel tank. Spray painted it with metal primer and finished with a Bronze Hammered Metal looking spray paint to give it an antique look. The opening has been cut in the front to display a small 2" electric, flickering candle light(plus solid non flickering blub included) surrounded by a country floral bud spray. The cut out section is protected with plastic trim to cover any sharp edges. The light has an on/off switch on the cord which runs under the heater and comes out the side for easy plug in. As far as I can see there is no reason for this, apart from how the lamp was put together. There is slightly more white plaster adhesive showing on one side where the font is attached to the bronze base, than on the other, so it looks like it wasn't quite sitting square when the base was fitted. A professional can probably take the lamp to pieces and reposition the base. Alternatively it looks just fine as it is. If it is turned slightly, you can't see it leaning. Nice looking and all original as found used condition cloth coal miners hat used in the early 1900s.its a heavy cloth material with a tin kerosene lamp on front.The lamp is marked Star and made by Griffin Brothers.all in nice shape with no damages or excessive wear to lamp-the cap has discoloration and surface wear consistent with age and use-has coal soot on exterior-wear to liner etc.no size indicated.about 8" x 7" inside.looks and displays well and is guaranteed old and authentic.Shipping is via USPS in US and overseas…always glad to combine on multiple buys when possible

Here we have a burner from c1870 stamped'The Doty Light' It is also stamped with a plaque to the gallery'Doty Nº11649' and'Manufactured Abroad' In my experience Doty's name/patents show up a lot when dealing with lighthouse illuminants and also Triplex burners. I imagine that if this came from a lighthouse it would have been in the living quarters due to the fact it has a shade gallery. The burner takes a 2" chimney(a Silber Light chimney fits well) Shade ring is for a 2 7/8" shade. The design of the burner makes me think it may be for a fuel earlier than Paraffin/Kerosene, such as Rosin. The burner is a side-draught circular-wick example using the Argand principle in conjunction with a flame-spreader. It is very similar in design to the'King's Patent Brighton Lamp' burner(especially the wick holding mechanism) The burner takes a flanged chimney as can be seen by the gallery fittings(small fixing-bolt(sadly missing) and the sloping clip to hold the other side ... moreof the flanged chimney lip) Around the base of the burner are faintly stamped' laurel leaves' and the words' James Hinks Patentee Birmingham' Dimensions; 4 1/4" tall from push-in collar to top of flame-spreader. Flanged chimney fitting is just a fraction under 3" Condition; appears to be in good condition for age. Some knocks and marks, tarnish etc. spreader is a replacement(height could be adjusted with a small section of tubing, if need be) cone is a little out of shape, three of the six spokes(part of the gallery guide inside the burner) section of tubing have come undone but I'm sure they could be reapplied with a dab of solder, chimney securing bolt is missing, small piece of the wick holder corroded, see images.
