Also has the spout cap, wire and wooden handle, and is in good condition. On the body of the can it has it s original warning label describing Kerosene and how to proper ly use the combustible liquid. The label has a split at the bottom about 1" long. A couple of dents to the can and surface wear from age. A nice primitive collectible to add to your collection. It is a 2 gallon size measuring 13.5" tall and 7.5" in diameter. The base measure's 71/2 inches. 13 inches tall. with Handle up its 19 inches) There appears to be no holes in the body or tank. There is a small indention on the very top of the lantern. Used and working wick included. Original paint color. Some paint has worn off. Very little Rust. All original parts move. Doesn't appear to be any chips or cracks in the glass globe. On the glass globe it has"No. 30 E.USA" The front side of the Lantern has"BLUE GRASS AIR PILOT" written on the base of it. The back side has"BELKNAP HDW. MFG. CO. LOUISVILL. KY. on the base of it. Antique original oil or kerosene wick miners lamp. Marked Husson Miners Lamp Pat. 11 17 03 No. 6 The Knippenberg Mfg Co. Oshkosh, Wis. although it's hard to read. Measures 3 1/4 inches tall at the spout. It has a pin on top of the copper spout for cleaning the wick. It is in very good condition and does not appear to have ever been used or had a wick in it. The spout is a bit flattened, but that could be easily fixed. All solder joints appear good. There is a few small dings in it from over the years. FOLDING LANTERN -1700 long before STONEBRIDGE, back before kerosene, read below
This is older then STONEBRIDGE WWI era lanterns That were used in the trenches during war. Back in the 1700's this is all people had to move from one place to another. It has a metal body and mica or eisenglass shades. This lantern dates back to the 1700. There were no copy rights laws back then and no name was placed on its creation. Later in 1900 company like STONEBRIDGE started make them and adding their name. The one I have here does not have a name. Therefore, 1700's is the first to be made. Everything about this lantern brings back time. It is in as well as can be expected for a lantern as old as this one. If someone want to restore it, beautiful, place it up for display. Any questions, please ask. oh yes, it is 7inches high, and 3 5/8 wide. from top of handle to bottom of lantern is 12 1/4 inches. The following is a little ... morehistory of the lantern: Coal oil(kerosene) was first distilled in quantity from coal in 1856 and Robert Dietz had a ready market for a cheap. Bright burning fuel. Dietz was awarded a patent for a burner specially designed to burn the new oil. After Edwin Drake produced the first commercially successful oil well in 1859, the stage was set for an even cheaper source of kerosene. During the 1860s. Civil War contracts, Robert's hard work, growth of railroads, and westward expansion made the lamp business a huge success. After the war ended, the cost of kerosene came down to a level where Dietz could sell lamps and lanterns to people who were still using candles. In 1868, Robert Dietz began to produce and sell a new tubular lantern patented by John Irwin. The lantern business continued to be good and, in 1887, a new factory was built on the corner of Greenwich and Laught streets in New York. In 1894, Dietz retired and left his sons Frederick and John in charge. Robert E. Dietz passed away on September 19, 1897, at the age of 79. You can check out the way the candle is being held. I have a modest collection of kerosene pressure lanterns that I want to downsize. Here is a Coleman 247 manufactured in May of 1948. The date is stamped on the nickel plated fount. I have owned it for a number of years and it now has to go ashore for the last time. Originally. This piece burned both kerosene& gasoline, it says so on the stainless steel'waist band' I converted it over to straight kerosene with a 201 generator.it runs well now. As you can see. This piece is reasonably good to look at for its age. 1948 is a long time ago. I would suggest that this lantern would be prefect to use for night fishing. Pair of Kerosene style lamps/swirl glass base with fabric shades/adorable.
These are a pair of wonderful looking lamps. Small for the bedroom. They are styled like a kerosene lamp with the swirl glass and then a china base. The lamps measure from the bottom to the bottom where the brass socket starts 8 1/2" The shades are fabric. Done in a off white background with a blueish grey print and they are clip shades. They could of been custom shades, everything in this house was quality to the period of the home which was federal. They were purchased at a estate sale. Wonderful and RARE 78 year-old piece of lighthouse history from May 8.1935. This galvanized steel vessel has soldered seams. The condition is remarkably in great shape. No holes or seam issues. The bottom has some dents/dings as shown in photo 8 but does not destroy the overall look or stability-it does not wobble or teeter. Additionally. Coleman 237 Kerosene & Gas lantern - Nickel fount - Made in Canada 1947 - Nice!
A nice early Coleman model 237"Empire" kerosene lantern made in Canada 2- 47. This lantern has been fully cleaned. Inspected, and refurbished, but I have not done any test burns with it. This model is designed to burn kerosene primarily, and must have the generator preheated with alcohol in the burner cup. The lantern will also burn white gas as specified on the collar, but the generator must also be preheated before lighting the mantle. The generator has been thoroughly cleaned of any carbon and is in good condition. The 236/237 series are one of the finest lantern's that Coleman ever produced, and is rated at 500+ CP output. Historically very popular with railways and mining camps across Canada. The fount has very good original nickel plating with some minor blemishes as shown, but looks very nice. Original model stamp still ... morepresent on the fount bottom. The ventilator cap has some chips and splintering from very high kerosene burn temperature as shown, but still looks good. Clean burner frame and collar. The early globe has a faded sunrise logo, and is in good condition. The pump has been lubed with neatsfoot oil, new correct fitting seal on the fuel cap. Overall, an awesome looking lantern that provides will provide amazing amount of light for your camping area or cabin. A great vintage lantern for your collection. Coleman Lantern 249 Scout Kerosene Single Mantel
Up for sale is a coleman lantern model number 249 SCOUT. Its dated 3 of 48. The vent does have some chips, the nickel on the tank could use some polishing, no major damage to the tank, the burner frame is clean. There is some surface rust on the bottom of the tank. It does run good, but could probably use a tune up. I did put a new cap gasket on it. Nice red letter globe. Check out the pics. Coleman mantles and what appears to be a handmade wood storage box made just for this Coleman lantern. This was a wonderful find at an estate sale this weekend and I don't know if the lantern works. As you can see from the detailed pictures, this Kerosene lantern has some chips in the enamel on the top but the rest of the lantern is in good condition. I looked at the glass chimney and saw that it is marked PYREX which I tried to take a picture of. The wood storage box appears to be very well handmade and is extremely sturdy. The inside of the top of the box is hinged, has a hole which the top of the lantern fits into to secure it and the box has a locking clasp( to keep the box closed. Someone used some type of a rope as a handle but it will need to be replaced eventually. Someone did write on the lantern"D&D" which I'm hoping can come off with denatured alcohol or acetone. This is a dated 4/72[ dated on bottom] Green Coleman Model 228F Dual Mantle Lantern with the original Pyrex Globe. It needs cleaning up and new Mantles but that is about as much as I know about Coleman Lanterns. It does also have rust spots and maybe a few paint paint chips but no major issues. Vintage Cardinal Brand 1 gal Galvanized Gas/Kerosene Can~Americana~Automobilia
This auction is for a vintage Cardinal Brand One Gallon Galvanized Gas/Kerosene Can. It is in pretty good shape for its age. I think. It does have a bit of dirt and patina, and could use a good cleaning. The blue paint around the top and bottom is a little flaky in spots, so I didn't want to risk losing any by cleaning it too aggressively. The label on the front is badly faded, only the black ink can still be seen. The handle is wood and seems in good shape. Both caps are included, and the gasket for the large cap is still present. It seems pretty solid with very little rust, other than a bit of surface rust which I've tried to show in the photos. The last photo is of the inside of the can, and a bit of surface rust can be seen in it on the bottom of the can. There is a little rust on the threads of the caps.
