I believe this heavy cast iron screw on cap to be a pressure vent cap. But I am not sure. It is a two-part mechanism(marked Fig 244) with the“floating” cap held by a long bolt to the base. The base has threads to attach to a larger pipe. Showing rust with chippy paint. The cap is from a small town gas station that closed. No telling how many years it has been sitting idle. Here is a really nice vintage 2.5 gallon gas can complete with the spout. Spout gasket, spout cap, and can vent cap. The vent cap bail is in terrific condition. These are built strong and ready to provide you with a lifetime of service. This can has never had fuel in it! The cap and spout(nozzle) was removed apparently early in its life.
