ATLANTIC Service Station Attendant’s Jacket/Coat& Bottletop Cap& Exxon Cap Offered here are 3 neat pieces of late 1950’s to early 1970’s vintage gas station collectibles. The first is an Atlantic Service Station Attendant’s Jacket in decent used shape. There are a very few small tears(sleeve and on the back) but. Hey, it’s a used gas station coat. I had it dry cleaned so it really looks good. The jacket was made by Troy Mills-Troy Pa. And has the red and white Atlantic station logo patch on wearer’s right breast and name patch(AL) on the left. The tags read 50 82 42 1 LC3 Troy Mills Blanket Lined 50% reused wool 29% cotton and 12% rayon. My feeling is it is a 42 regular size. The lining is wool. The coat has 2 front pockets with a slot in the top of the one pocket for tire gauge. No missing buttons. Nice old uniform piece. Having gotten my driver's license in 1962. This cap brings back memories of the uniforms& caps that the gas station'pump jockey' attendants and'grease monkeys' in the repair bays use to wear. Even that unremovable mixture of dirt& grease that adorns this cap is very familiar to me. We all had a pair of jeans back then that were for garage use only, and never got washed because your mom wouldn't let them near her new Westinghouse clothes washer. Besides the dirt& stains on this cap, there is also quite a bit of material deterioration on one end, which might've been helped along by the wearer always jamming the cap in to his back pocket when trying to look his best when the school cheerleaders drove in to the gas station.
