Antique vintage Chinese qinqin lute musical instrument with bat and bee carvings
Up for auction to U.S. customers only is an old hand made Asian musical instrument. I thought it was a Japanese shamisen(like a banjo) but another ebayer advises that it is a Chinese qinqin(a lute) I know nothing about either of the instruments so I hope this is accurate. It measures 36 inches long. It has several decorations and printing on it- there appears to be a bee at the base and at the other end is what looks like a bat and some some embossed foreign symbols. Also at the base in red are printed more symbols and what could be English words(something produced for export? It has some condition issues- no strings. No wood pins to hold the strings in place, some broken frets(I think that's what they're called) and some separation of the wood at the joints. Please check the pictures for details. This print is from a rare British children's book. Probably from the 1930s. It shows a longhair tabby cat watching the comings and goings of the bees at the beehive. There is a caption beneath the illustration that reads: Tibbles waits patiently beside the beehives. It is by the very famous British artist A. E. Kennedy. Forgive the poor quality of the scan. The original has bright. Rich colors. The page has text on the back, but it is not visible through paper. The page measures approx. 7.75x10.75 inches. And the actual image area is about 6.5x8 inches. Real Paper Hornet Nest - Nature Cabin Wasp Bee Twig Honeycomb Science Taxidermy
Real Paper Hornet nest that I watched them build this last Summer 30'ft above my driveway in the Appalachian Mountains of North Georgia. It came down this Fall in a windstorm. Luckily after they had all left. Well, all but one, which I found dead in the bag today when I went to take pictures. I'll include that one poor hornet who unfortunately didn't escape the sub freezing weather out on the porch, or being sealed up in a plastic bag. I put it in a plastic bag when we picked it up a few weeks ago and left it on a covered porch to freeze for a while. just in case) Measures about 16" long +/ plus the amazingly tiny twig it was suspended from. And 31" +/ in diameter These are great for cabin decor. Home school, science class-room or study.
