Offered for auction is this heavy Cast Iron Finial for a Fence or Post. It stands about 5" tall. It is quite heavy- weighs about 1 1/2 lb. Shape looks like a flower bud before it opens. It is free standing, but it might fit into a hollow round pipe, or slip over a hollow square post, depending on size. Selling as a LOT- this group of crica 1870 exterior fence post newels with LARGE finials. There are some broken tops- there is also wear on the bottoms of the posts. Overall there are six good posts with finials- these can be reused for a fence project inside or out. Great old form& and nice old dry white paint. Posts measure 41" high. The finial tops are 16" in height. The square dimension of the posts at greatest point measure 7" are 4.75" square on the main shaft. ANTIQUE BARN AND OR FENCE POST OWL
Now here is something for all you out there that collects owls. I came across this around 30 years ago. I was told then. That it had to come off of a ranch or farm and it was either mounted on a fence post or on top of a barn. You can tell by looking at the eyes that it was made along time ago. The metal seems to be soft and I believe that it is either made out of copper or brass. I can see some green tarnish in different places on it. There are metal screws holding the base to the top but one of the screws are missing,and that is the way it has been every since I bought it. I have looked over ebay in every catagory and can not find nothing even similar to it. It stands 19" tall from the base to the top of its ear. Measures about 3 7/8" inside flats. Screws were used to hold to pole. Use your imagination, these would look great as bookends, doorstops, or decoration. This 15 plus pound two piece cast iron hitching post fence post top horse head comes from a local NH estate and was on the ladies front yard fence for a few generations. It has no cracks or breaks and was formed from two pieces and welded or brazed together. Not the original paint I would assume and has a few splotches of paint the same color as her fence. Vintage Antique Lot of 6 Unusual Oblong Hole Pointed Top Fence Post Caps Tops !!
Hi: For your consideration here is a cool unusual lot of six(6) vintage or antique galvanized steel fence post caps! These caps are about 7 1/4" tall. The outside diameter of the base is about 2 1/2" and the inside diameter of the cap opening is about 1 7/8" The more oblong than circular top hole is roughly 2" by just short of 1 3/4" inside diameter. We found no maker name but the caps are marked with what looks like'91-1915' We are not going to speculate as to whether this is a date mark, part number, or something else but these are not modern post caps and they are heavy duty weighing over 1 1/2 pounds each. The photos do the best job of describing the condition in detail, and we have tried to show all details for your inspection. Overall there are scratches/scuffs, oxidation, some areas of very light rust, ... morefinish loss, and a bit of dirt, but no cracks or missing pieces that we found on close inspection. Monster Deer BUCK RUB Fence Post ! From Praire CRP Whitetail Antlers
Found this monster buck rub out on the open praire in South dakota about 10 years ago. Its open crp with no trees for a long way off. So the whitetails here rub their antlers on certain fence posts. This one was rubbed over and over the years by some huge trophy bucks in the area. And(as you can see) nearly rubbed completely through! The post was very loose, with wire long down. I have seen only a couple others like this, but not worn through as much. Not sure what one would do with it, but its really pretty cool, and one of a kind. Measures: 49" long.
