These are selected birds to breed as you can see in the pictures they are not in the shade to hide anything, so you will be getting eggs from only the best birds. Yes you will get some culls and that's common in all breeds of birds. You can see some chicks I just hatched out the black ones I got 3 hatched chicks out of 5 eggs but 4 developed and one didn't make it out and we all know that is common when hatching eggs. The Hen has a nice tall comb that is very good and she is laying some nice large eggs. I would use distilled water so there is no bacteria grows in the tap water, google it. and let the eggs sit for 18 to 24 hours before incubating them. You can see they have solid black feet and toes and skin, etc the pictures do not lie, please look. You are buying eggs from a 4-h member and you can see the NIP Paper that they were just tested. There is no promise or guarantee on hatch rate cause of post office or very poor handling conditions as I know from buying eggs. Authentic antique color plate titled Canadian and African Geese by Edwin Megargee. From the set of 43 plates published in Standard-Bred Poultry. Volume II, 1912. I have most of the color plates available in separate listings. In addition to the first edition book from which they were removed when I purchased the lot at an estate sale(plates already removed) Nice quality chromolithograph printed on heavier paper with a smooth satin finish. Blank on the back side. This is NOT a reproduction. Measuring 8¾" x 5⅝" and in excellent condition. Ragged top edge with glue residue discoloration from book removal, and some of the prints have edge wear/minor damage, not affecting the image area. Scanned coloration of print and background hue varies slightly from original print. Edwin Megargee(best known for his dog portraits) was hired ... morein 1910 by the International Correspondence Schools. In Scranton, PA to illustrate their course on Standard Bred Poultry. He was selected by William Barry Owen to make paintings of all of the varieties bred on his farm. This work took two years. The Poultry Item. November, 1913) The instruction booklets included the realistic illustrations of various types of fowl. From common breeds of chicken to pheasants to exotic fowl from around the world. The booklets were collected into two volumes in 1912. In the I.C.S. Reference Library as Standard-Bred Poultry, with B&W illustrations and 70 color plates. The plates bear the 1910 or 1911 date below Megargee’s signature. With 26 color plates in Volume I and 43 plates in Volume II. This work was the precursor of the more famous The Book of Poultry, by Thomas McGrew. Republished by the International Library of Technology through the MacMillan Company in 1921. IT MEASURES 10"1/2 ACROSS THE TOP AND 6" IN HEIGHT IT IS STAMPED IN BLUE COBOLT WITH A ROOSTER BESIDE THE OVAL LOGO WHICH READS- OVERALL THE PARK& POLLARD CO. BOSTON- THE SMALLER PRINT INK WAS SMEARED AND IS NOT READABLE. THIS CROCK APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN MADE IN 2 HALVES. AS THERE IS A VISABLE SEAM RIGHT DOWN THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE LOGO, AND CONTINUES ACROSS THE BOTTOM AND UP THE OTHER SIDE.
