We have not seen one like this before. We found this in a womans barn who remembered using this as a girl and adding the water in it for the chickens. If you pull the galvanized top off with the handle there is another metal bucket that is attached to the pan itself. This inner bucket has a gasket on the inside and a sprung piece of metal on the outside. When you put pressure on the sprung metal piece it pushes in on the gasket and releases the water. So you could pull the outer can up a little and stop the flow of water or you could walk by and puch it the rest of the way down to start the flow into the tray again. Vintage Metal Chicken Waterer with Glass Float ??????? Nice blue color.
I've been told this is a metal chicken waterer. I do not know if this is correct but it seems like that's what it could be. It is all metal with a glass float. It looks like its in working order but I can't test it. The float does go up and down nicely. There is a little grey paint on one side but it is originally this nice blue color. The only rust is a little near the flow tubes and a few other spots have surface rust. The water area is stained but can probably be cleaned.
