An indoor 12V antenna is also included to assist you with your testing. The internal Lithium battery has recently been replaced. The following test results were obtained. The unit powered up fine with 115V AC power and the display started counting up from 00:00. DC Power input was not tested. The Antenna bias voltage was measured at 12V DC nominal. The commands can be entered manually using the usual key sequence of FUNC 00. Then UP/DOWN etc The receiver locks on to at least three satellites(when the antenna has a good view of the sky) and shows the correct time on both the LCD ... moredisplays. The UNLOCK flag clears when accurate time is received. The unit correctly identifies its latitude and longitude. The smaller LCD display is backlit. The larger one is not illuminated. Time also appears on the IRIG-B output. And this can be decoded using an external display. Other outputs and functions have not been tested. You need a 12V powered GPS antenna to use with this unit. If you decide to replace the one that I'm supplying please note that most GPS antennas that are sold today are for 5V power and may be damaged if connected to this unit. A new basic 12V indoor antenna is included to get you started. For a permanent installation an external 12V antenna with a full view of the sky is hightly recommended and I have some related hardware also listed on eBay. Offered is an ESE-181 MASTER CLOCK 1U RACK MOUNT. AND 2 ESE 161A SLAVE CLOCKS. Units are working as can be seen in picture. The master has a modem which could be programmed to periodically dial a time service to synchronize. This service is probably no longer available. It does however have a 10 mHz input which when hooked to a GPS unit with a 10mHz output will lock the oscillator to keep perfect time. It displays numerical day of the year(1-365) Hour, minutes, and seconds. It has standard ESE output that allows hooking many slave clocks to it via daisy chain 75 ohm coax using BNC connectors. I don't know what the limit is but we had 20 clocks attached to it. The master also has a 9 pin serial port, a SMPTE XLR output connector, and IRIG-B connector(BNC) a video in connector(BNC) and the 5/10 mHz GPS reference input also BNC. The master ... moreand slaves run on 115 VAC. The master also has a small internal gel cell battery for backup which can be switched in or out via rear panel switch. This battery will need to be replaced. But I opened the unit and it is not corroded nor has it leaked. The two slave clocks work as can be seen in the picture. They display hours. Minutes, and seconds. I currently do not have a GPS unit with a 5 or 10 mHz output so I can't test this feature. Lucent RFTG GPS Disciplined Frequency Standard(GPSDO) HAM This is the frequency disciplining section of a Lucent RFTG frequency standard. It's the second(and last) of these units that I have available. The RFTG consists of both an ovenized crystal oscillator(OXCO) which is disciplined by a GPS receiver and associated circuitry. And a separate rubidium oscillator, which is also disciplined by control from the OXCO. The system is redundant, and both the OXCO and the rubidium oscillator sections are capable of being operated independently. From the exterior they both look alike, but only the OXCO has independent GPS capability. I prefer the OXCO as a standard over the rubidium unit for two reasons: 1) The stand-alone rubidium unit must be periodically calibrated. The OXCO is self-calibrating by locking to the cesium beam standards of the ... moreGPS system. 2) The rubidium unit will eventually"wear out" due to gradual failure of the excitation lamp. The OXCO will last indefinitely. Even if left on continuously- which is the preferred mode of operation. This standard has been fitted with its own indicator and power supply. And is extremely simple to use. There are no switches or controls, just a red/green LED to show GPS lock status and a 10 MHz output port on the front. An antenna connection and a power input are on the rear. There is no on/off switch, as the unit is intended to operate continuously for maximum accuracy. The GPS receiver is shown at the top in the fourth photo, attached to the removable bottom of the standard. This receiver and antenna connection are not present in the rubidium version. The output impedance is a standard 50 ohms. With just over 4 volts of clean sine wave output into an open circuit as shown in the second photo. The output is a bit less when terminated in its 50 ohm characteristic impedance. A new power supply and"starter" antenna are included. They require 5VDC and 15VDC for operation. While they are not officially PPS units. They do create a hex delta number associated when a 1PPS is applied. A 1PPS is output as well. They were built OEM for a Nortel product. So I know little about the true nature of the firmware. Built to a very high performance class as well for stability. These have an extremely high MTFB. The hours clocked so far are a tiny fraction of the rubidium lamp life.
