This is a Wagner L606 Professional Electromagnetic Pinless Moisture Meter for checking moisture level of lumber. This will measure moisture between 5% and 30% to a depth of 3/4" I will need a new 9v battery. The included operating manual has species conversion tables for hardwoods. Softwoods, and popular exotic species. You read the meter and go to the conversion table to determine the moisture level for the particular wood you are checking. This is a fast device and can be slid over boards to check the entire piece and you can see the moisture difference on knots verses clear areas of the board. Because it measures down into the wood it truly reflects the average moisture content of the board, not just the surface which would typically be drier than the inside.
