RARE Antique Imperial Russian Samovar 9 Award Medallions Exhibition Seals 1890's
This is a rare antique Imperial Russian Samovar. There are 9 Award Medallions/Exhibition Seals dating from 1893 to 1900. This samovar is approximately 20” high by 13” wide to the handle’s edge. I don’t know anything about Samovars. This has been in my wife’s family for a long time. I will describe that flaws that I can see: The spout is bent slightly to the side. And the spigot valve is missing. There are some dents/dings in the barrel and on the top. The wooden top pieces(not sure what they’re for, maybe handles to open the top? each have a small crack in them. The door and turn-latch under the bottom seem to work fine, as does the small cover over what appears to be a vent hole on top. The inside chimney looks intact. The brass finish is aged. However. I did clean an area on the top(see picture) with a non-abrasive brass cleaner and it ... morecleans up very nicely– I didn’t expect it to come up this bright and shiny. Was used to impress the designs on a lead bulla seal. After the cord was wrapped around the package or document and the ends inserted in a channel in the blank seal.
