Please check our other listings. Origin ... moreunknown. Listing is for a spoke weight used on a large(14-18ft diameter) early wooden wheel windmill produced by the founders of The Woodmanse Mfg. Co. of Freeport. IL. The weight has W433 part number cast on its side. That part number precedes its use after 1915 on the Direct stroke steel wheel mill. This weight was bolted to a wooden wheel spoke when it was found. It appears to be old with scaring typical of an aged piece. The weight is not listed in the Rick Nidey& Don Lawrence Windmill Weight Guide. Imperfections as shown. Its age in addition to the size mill it was used on makes this a special find for any collection. It is roughly 4 1/2" X 3" X 2 1/4" in sizes and weights just under 5lbs. Spoke weights. Referred to occasionally as balance weights, were actually used to assist a windmill in the pumping of water by creating additional centrifugal inertia generated by the wheel as it turned. Spoke weights were placed on a single spoke located on the wheel at the point the mill began its lifting stroke as it spun. Call us at 940 597-7735 with questions about this item.

Woodmanse Wooden Wheel Windmill Spoke Weight, Part # W433
We purchased a private collection of cast iron weights. We have listed a number of them we are offering for sale. Please check our other listings. Origin unknown. Listing is for a spoke weight used on a large(14-18ft diameter) early wooden wheel windmill produced by the founders of The Woodmanse Mfg. Co. of Freeport. IL. The weight has W433 part number cast on its side. That part number precedes its use after 1915 on the Direct stroke steel wheel mill. This weight was bolted to a wooden wheel spoke when it was found. It appears to be old with scaring typical of an aged piece. The weight is not listed in the Rick Nidey& Don Lawrence Windmill Weight Guide. Imperfections as shown. Its age in addition to the size mill it was used on makes this a special find for any collection. It is roughly 4 1/2" X 3" X 2 1/4" in sizes and ... moreweights just under 5lbs. Spoke weights. Referred to occasionally as balance weights, were actually used to assist a windmill in the pumping of water by creating additional centrifugal inertia generated by the wheel as it turned.
