vintage fairbanks cast iron and brass scales in grams weight unknown use
up for auction is a small fairbanks scales. It is made of cast iron with a nickle plated brass beam and brass weights there is some nickle worn off. the base is 3 1/2 inches wide by 4 1/2 inches long. it is 4 1/2 inches tall to the top of the 2 1/2 inch pan that has four, 1 inch tall pieces of wire soldered to it. the beam is 8 inches long and is marked in graduations of 0, 3, 41/2, 9, and 18 grams on both sides. there is light rust on the underside but it appears to be complete and works. thanks for looking and good luck.

ANTIQUE. 12 WARNER CAST IRON MAPLE SUGARING SPILES/TAPS/SPIGOTS& TWO BUKCET HANGING HOOKS, CIRCA: 1900: My photo should be able to speak for itself, as the the appearance, and overall physical condition of these antique maple sugaring cast iron devices and the bucket hanging hooks that go with them. Call these cast iron items whatever you want, spiles, taps, or spigots, they are all one and the same, serving the same practical purpose in maple sugaring farming! Each of these 12 items is 74 mm or just under 2 15/16 inches in length. One side of each of these taps displays their maker's name, WARNER, while thier reverse side displays the legend: PAT-D. One hundred years ago, the maple sugaring farmers would drill a small hole in the trunk of a maple sugar tree, drive one of these cast iron taps into the hole, then hang a wooden bucket ... moreon the tap's hook, to catch the maple tree's sweet sap, as the fluid flowed off the end of the spigot. It takes about 40 gallons of sap from a sugar maple tree, to make one gallon of the sweet elixir commonly known as maple syrup. WARNER type spiles are no longer being used by large maple sugaring farmers, but these antique cast iron collectibles could surely serve a person very well, who only wanted to tap a dozen maple sugar trees, and make a gallon or two of maple syrup for themselves. I have noticed on the ETSY site, a seller is offering six WARNER spiles for $30.00! Mystarting price for 12 such WARNER spiles and two bucket hanging hooks, should be considered somthing of a bargain! Shipped via Standard Post, the 12 taps and bucket hooks would cost over $9.00, but taking advantage of the USPS's costs on their PRIORITY MAIL SMALL FLAT RATE BOX service, the shipping costs on these antique cast iron taps becomes more realistic and cost effective. These taps may be over one hundred years old, but they are still in EXCELLENT physical condition! Cast Iron Pig Ornament, was mounted like a windmill weight
We purchased a group of cast iron weights. We have listed a number of those weight for sale. Please check our other listings. This cast pig on a base was included. Origin unknown. We were told that it was found mounted to a windmill that belonged to a pig farmer. It is not a windmill weight but was used as a decoration. It appears as old with scaring typical of an aged piece. It is light weight so it may be cast aluminum. May have been a sign or mail box décor piece originally. Includes the steel base shown. Our descriptive sentence" appears as old with rust& scaring typical of an aged piece" should not be interpreted as an authentication of age. It is simply an observation as to its physical condition.
