CARVED STONE FOO DOG SEALS - SET OF 3 - LARGE & BEAUTIFUL!
You are viewing a set of vintage hand carved Chinese seals. I am not sure of the age. But they are vintage, and came from the estate of a woman whose uncle travelled extensively in the Orient in the 1930's and 1940's. This set is large, with hand carved a foo dog and her pup on the tops of all three. These may be soapstone. The seals measure 2-1/8" x 2-1/8" x 7" tall, for the two larger ones. The center thinner(featuring the side profile of the foo dog) one measures about 2-3/16" x 1/2" x 7" in size. All feature carved Chinese characters on the front, and of course, on the bottoms of the seals. They are in very good vintage condition, with only a little rounding of corners, and perhaps even those are original to the pieces. They are of good weight, and display beautifully. I can't vouch for the contents as it is still sealed. Something appears to be in the bottle. The two smaller bottles held Jolly and 5. The are in less perfect condition with the seals no longer intact. They feel empty. The labels and metallic cord are good on all three bottles. Scent still clings to each bottle. This document is dated and signed in 1831. It contains 4 folded pages. Bound by two pink hand tied fabric bindings. All but one page has writing, thereby giving it a total of 7 pages of hand written documentation. The scans show the front, signature page, and the very back of the document. There is another set of Royal Seals on the 3rd page. The approximate size of this particular document is 8& 5/16" Wide X 11& 3/4" in Height. I purchased several old Historical Documents from an outdoor street market in Nimes, France, while visiting there this past October and part of November. This is 5 vintage Yellow Servalier canisters. The tall thin one holds 16 cups and the seal is a slightly different color. The next tallest holds 24 cups, the next holds 8 cups, the next holds 5 cups and the shortest one holds 8 cups. The shortest and the 24 cup one use the same size seal. There is only one seal for the 2 included in this lot. A total of 5 canisters and 4 Seals. They all show signs if wear the 5 cup one has a deep scratch on it I tries to show it in a picture. Two canisters with normal wear-light scratches from handling. A tiny bit of peeling on one, and one seal fits a bit tighter than the other. Also, two 4 ounce Snack Cups, one is sheer with a yellow seal. The Dora Snack Cup has an orange seal that matches the canister seals-it has a bit of roughness on a small section of the edge of the seal-my guess is that a little one opened it with some teeth.
